Hello to all! :wave After being out of the saddle for some time, I've decided to get involved again. It's amazing that once you're bitten by the bike bug you never loose the passion. I'm looking to purchase a [used] 1100/1150GS, so now the hunt is on for the right mount :type . I live in New Mexico where I'm sure I'll have plenty of awesome roads (paved and unpaved) to explore. Can't wait...

Love reading the posts and the stories of rides, adventures, etc. Keep them coming. Hopefully, I'll add my own soon.

I rode in that fine state for a couple of years (70's) and you are right about having some great riding, except during electric storms and wind storms and flash floods are NOT a joke. Once bitten by the bug...until the grave. Glad you are going for a GS and this group of :german :bikes :groovy

RKM...Depending on where you are at in New Mexico..I'm a native of NM, living in Arizona, check with Iron Horse BMW in Tucson AZ, you can look em up on line, great people and they love GS's.

I'm right off I-10, so Tucson is about as convenient as any place else. Deming Cycle is no longer affiliated with BMW so my options are outside of my general area. I'll keep you all posted.

Yep, NM definitely has some strange weather, but I suppose it can add to the adventure, within reason! I certainly have experienced some rather unusual weather here. And it can change in a minute. I grew up in the Gulf coast region of Texas, high humidity, rain, etc., so the drier climate of NM is more to my liking and is a plus for two-wheeled riding. :D

Yeah-
The GS is the perfect machine for the area. I live in SW Colorado and am planning an early spring ride down to the Gila NF and Silver City. What a beautiful part of the state!!

I just purchased a 2000 R1100RT about 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, it is going to sit in storage until the roads up here in Edmonton are safe. I'm hoping around the end of March.

I was away from riding because of kids eating up the bike budget. Been away from regular riding for 19 years. I'm going to take a rider's course (already paid for) as a major refresher for everything I have forgotten. Riding a few times on borrowed bikes the last couple of years made me realize that I: a. miss riding and b. need that refresher real bad.

The 1100RT got picked because it was available and in my budget. I have wanted a Boxer RT bike for as long as I can remember. I was going to buy an '06 Concours because of the features it had for the price. My wife and I were at the local BMW motorcycle dealer to look at a 96 1100RS but it sold and hour and a half before we got there. Sitting right next to it was the 1100RT. I looked at the price, looked at the estimated payments and asked my wife if we could afford it. Her answer (man I love this woman) was, "It's what you want.". She did not want me settling for something. She wanted me to have what I really wanted.

I can hardly wait for the roads to get safe. I'm chomping at the bit in anticipation. :clap :brad

I'm planning on taking my R11GS up through the Gila this weekend. There's a number of routes but I'll probably take the route from Mimbres over to Hillsboro and back down through Lake Valley (old mining ghost town). Of course there's the route from Silver City to Lake Roberts, Cliff Dwellings, Argh! :banghead So many options! Ever try to do it all in a weekend? The weather here is fairly warm for this time of year and the Spring winds haven't started yet, and no t-storms, which means no flash floods. Just clear skies, mild tempratures, and winding mountain roads with awesome vistas :dance

I'll keep ya posted. Hasta la vista!
