I had my long awaited telephony interview with Intel tonight and was told by the interviewer that I aced the 3 tests given. Amen, I've got a shot at a job at Intel. The next phase of the interview process will require them to fly me to Hillsboro, Oregon. I'm excited! Can you feel the excitement? I've been unemployed for 7 weeks now & I need a job. Relocating to Oregon will be a challenge. I know nobody in Oregon.

Best of luck to you, Bob! That part of Oregon is very pretty. Lots of rain, but green most of the time. Not too far from the magnificant Oregon coast which has some great motorcycle roads. You can go all the way down the California coast or up to Seattle on some very nice roads. Central Oregon is relatively dry and open. Nice place to spread your wings. The Oregon BMW club has a very nice rally in John Day, OR called the Chief Joseph Rally. http://www.bmwro.org/ It's in the middle of June. Be there and the first beer is on me. :buds

Best of luck to you, Bob--I’ll tell you that we recently relocated to the south after living in the northern Sierra Nevada (Truckee/Lake Tahoe) and many's the time we rode up to the terminus of the Sierras and on into the Cascades (Lassen Natl Park), heading north into Klamath Falls, past Crater Lake and up to Bend on the east side of the range and the Three Sisters peaks.
The Willamette valley is also nice and fishing and boating on the Rogue is awesome. Not real familiar with the northern portion of the state, although i have been to Portland and didn't mind it a whole lot.
101 up and down the coast is spectacular--sometimes heavily traveled and the water's usually wayyyyy too cold for swimming and wading but man, the big ol rocks and stretches of shoreline will dazzle ya!
Be prepared for a bit of culture shock--they do things a little differently in the west, but the people are overall just the friendliest and kindest folks around.
FYI, we can hardly wait to return west and will RUN--not walk--back to our house in the mountains when this job is complete here.
Again, best of luck to you and relax, if you end up there, you won't be a stranger for long!

I sure want to thank all who have responded with kind words and best wishes. A part of me will love the move to the great Northwest but the sad part is leaving everyone I know & love behind. I don't plan on riding to Oregon, should I land the job, but to let Intel move my car, bike & stuff in a big moving van while I fly up. This is pure speculation on my part & I don't want to get ahead of myself. I haven't sealed the deal yet, I simply know they really like my background and how I responded to the interview tonight. I've never been intimidated by such things as I'm a natural talker. I'm one of those "never met a stranger" kinda guys. Keep me in your prayers as I progress to the next level. This is all very exciting for an old man of 56. Besides, they haven't seen me yet! Be afraid, be very afraid!

Congrats. That part of OR is real nice.
We'll keep hoping for the best for you. Just remember, if this doesn't work out, another opportunity will come your way. Things just have a way of working out. Good luck, and dazzle em with your brilliance.

Best of luck to you! My best friend lived out in the Pacific Northwest for a couple of years - didn't know anyone before he got there - and keeps talking about moving back out there.
If you fly over Central IL on your interview trip, wave at me and there will be a big thumbs up back at ya'!

Wonderful news Bob, we'll look forward to a new arrival in the area sometime this summer. Lots of great folks up here, that ride year round, (well there's a few weeks of ice on the roads), but you can ride the rest of the time.
The Carolinas are very nice, (lived in Georgia and North Carolina before) but I think this North West Country truly is His land. You'll see! :D

Good going, Bob. It must feel good to know that someone with your skillset is in demand. We're all pulling for you; let us know how it goes.
Don't worry about knowing anyone in Oregon. You have a BMW--you'll have riding buddies a'plenty before you know it. :dance

Thanks for all the encouragement gang. I can't begin to explain what a weight it was off my shoulders to get by the first preliminary interview. This means that at the very least I get a free trip to Oregon for the face to face interview. I'm trying not to get my hopes too high but to just trust in my experience to sell my skill set. Intel wouldn't be talking to someone 2500 miles away if they weren't really interested. I'd love a chance at a fresh start in a beautiful state like Oregon. What fum, a new bike & thousands of new roads & scenery.

I'm sure you'll do fine.
Here's a very good tip for any job seekers out there who have a resume up on Monster: Run the "update" function on your resume EVERY DAY; you don't have to make any changes, just run the update function. This gives the file a new timestamp. This is good because the newest timestamps rise to the top of the results pile in the results list when an employer is looking for someone. :clap

Got the magic call Monday at high noon. Intel is flying me to Portland Oregon On Feb 10th for 3 day/2 nights. Rental car will be waiting. I've got one final 60 minute interview to pass & I'm in. Ok, I'm seriously excited now. I'm so close to a great job in a beautiful part of the country that I can taste it. Keep those prayers coming, you're doing great!

Bob,
I've got my fingers crossed for you! I'll be sure to say a prayer on February 10 that your interview goes well and that no matter what, you end up happy!
You'll do just fine! We'll all be excited to hear how things went so keep us posted!
:kiss
Say this to yourself a few times before you go in for the interview:
"I, Bob, am the coolest dude on the planet! I rock!"
Best wishes and God bless!

Bob, you're gonna love it :D When you get right down to it the Portland area just might be the best place to live in all of western Oregon especially if you are into 2 wheel travel. If you want to get over to eastern Oregon for some just flat great riding you can sure do it fast compared to most any other place west of (as we natives say) the hump. The "hump" being the cascade mountains. Strange though it is the air quality is better in the Portland area than anywhere else in the Willamette Valley and that counts a lot with me. In fact that is the one thing I really like about living on the coast. Oregon is a unique piece of geography in that the state has mountains, deserts, ocean and just about everything in between. And as someone else mentioned, great micro breweries :drink
Geez, I should maybe become a chamber of commerce volunteer with a line like that.
