Hello,
I'm traveling to Vietnam to do a motorcycle tour of the northern region. I need to purchase a travel medical/evacuation policy. This usually has a rider for an adventure trip.
Has anyone purchased one of these? And what I should look for from a potential company? And what should I avoid?
Thank you for your help.

Hey welcome to the MOA and might I say, A fine first post.
I wish I could help you more but I haven't been over there for a while. When I was in Laos there is this company that did Medical Flights in Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. It's called Westcoast Helicopters Westcoast Helicopters (http://laowestcoast.laopdr.com/) . Back in '97 they did medical flights as well as all the other stuff they did. Check them out, if they are still flying between Vietnam and Thailand. They would find you, pick you up and take you to either Nong Khai or Chiang Mai Thailand for medical care. I can speak for both locations (personally) that they have first rate trauma care and are both clean and fully staffed hospitals.
The company is owed and operated from a New Zealand owner and they have been in Laos for a while now.
Sorry I can't be of more help, I was in the US Army and we did a few things different, but this company did MEDEVAC one of our guys from Vietnam to Thailand once and it all worked out pretty well.
HTH, good luck and have a great time, beautiful country up there.

An interesting story about one fellow's misfortune while on a foreign
(China) motorcycle tour can be found here:

This guy had medical evacuation insurance and needed to make
use of it.

I've looked at just about all of the companies and MedJet comes out ahead. It's a simple policy, evacuation only. The nice part is that they will come and get you as long as a doctor says you can travel. Many companies require that a doctor recommend evacuation - and getting a doctor to say you need to be evacuated because the care he (or his country) provides is not adequate can be impossible.
We had to use them once, to evacuate someone from Thailand. A little bit of a hassel but in the end they did it right.
