Heard what I hope is just a rumor,
that the magazine is eventually going to
stop being published in favor of a Web version.
I hope this is not true, as I enjoy recieving the printed material.
Anyone know anything about this?

The subject has already been discussed somewhere on this forum. Try searching for it or maybe someone knows the name of the thread...

Like when...in 2094? I would guess that half of the members either don't have internet service or use it or want to use it for reading magazines. There are lots of emagazines, Forbes, Business Week, PC Magazine, etc. and I spend about an hour reading these printed magazines and about 2 minutes reading the emagazines...if they are free.
So nuts to that rumor.

Can't someone answer nice and simply? :lol
No. It isn't happening. The magazine will continue at its current excellent level. The web site is getting some much needed attention.

FWIW
I first heard it from 3 BMW riders that I met on the Blue Ridge on January 1st,
We got to talking at a rest stop and the subject came up.
They were adamant that the magazine was on the way out.
Then it came up again from a rider I was talking with at MR motorcycles in Asheville.
I saw his decal on the bike and got to talking.
He said he had heard it from other MOA members as far back as the July Rally.
I personally could not believe this would happen,
but these days you never know.
I wouldn't have believed that Sandy was leaving either.

"Just when I think I've heard it all ... here comes a new dysfunction." :banghead
So someone has said that ON is going away. Really? Let's think that one through.
The numbers alone should tell anyone with even a little bit business savvy that the ON is not going away.
In general terms --
--> 38,000 members who all get the ON, compared to
--> 3,000 registered users on the web site, of which maybe 750 have posted once, and perhaps half that number again drop in regularly. Then we are down to the 150 or so who just can't stay quiet, and prattle on incessantly! :type
Where do clubs and such fit into that interaction picture? I would venture that in a given month, the total of MOA members who attend state or local club meetings is less than the total of those who are registered for the web site.
So with all that said, the magazine has been and remains the primary point of contact between MOA leadership and the members, and the leadership is well aware of that.
Next, each of the BOD members is alert enough to know that the huge majority who gets the magazine constitute a "market" that would soon be lost to MOA (and as soon scooped up by another organization) if they did away with the ON.
So is ON on the way out? Let me put it this way: Pat Robertson has a better chance of an attack of sanity than the ON does of becoming defunct.
But will the ON change some with the advent of a new editor. Certainly.
So don't sweat it. Instead, just park your beverage of choice by the recliner and watch for the postman to stick the latest issue in the box.
And as always, IMHO

I noticed that the forum is up to 7700 registered members, which is about 20% of the total MOA membership.
Also, I've noticed that the forum gets views by 400 or more members every day. They probably aren't the same 400 members each time. (Well, at least some of them probably aren't the same.)
But still, nearly everyone who joins, probably does join for the magazine "subscription".

Not to ruin *your* analysis, :) but those registration numbers on the forum pages include everyone who is signed up for the Secure Services area of the web site proper (i.e. membership, profile updates, etc.), so isn't a true measure of forum members. Still, it's an ever increasing number and IMO more and more people are discovering the forum.
In today's world, a magazine without a good web site, or a web site without a good magazine is like a one-armed boxer.

Thanks Darryl, I appreciate seeing the specifics on the numbers. The percentages do shake out a little different, but the essential point remains valid.
