I need a new cell phone. What about going with the new GPS phones? Or Wi-Fi?
What do you like??? All ideas welcomed.

As far as the phones go I would suggest a tri-mode phone. I get much better reception in remote areas than friends with straight digital.
As for a GPS, there are a lot out there to choose from. A good place to start is what's your budget? That's going to help you narrow down what your options are.

I recommend a phone that can place and receive calls, and store numbers and send text messages. You don't need anything else.
Now take the above and find which one 'feels right' to you. I think the biggest problem with phone sales is that they use dunny phones for display, so you don't get a realistic idea of how user-friendly the damn thing is.

never has a truer phrase been spoken, all-in-ones are generally lackluster in every way

Yup get one that works. I have found that a device that tries to do many things ends up doing few things well.

I'm sure that there is a GPS software program with external antenna out there somewhere (or somewhere waiting to be added).
Our company has recently switched to the Qtek 9090 Pocket PC Phone (PXA). It's a SIM phone, it's a digital camera with 15-second video, it's a digital recorder, it's a Windows Mobil based pocket PC, it does Wi-Fi, it does GSM/GPRS phone with Windows Explorer. It has Windows Pocket Word, and Pocket Excel and Windows Media Player. It's also a fax machine and reads PDF files.
It does all of those things very well. It does active Sync with your e-mail programs (Windows Outlook 2003 required on your home/work PC). You can send MMS text/pictures, and regular e-mail with attachments.
It's Bluetooth ready. (There is a Bluetooth GPS unit available)
It's more than a PDA it really is a pocket PC and it's about the same size as a Palm PDA.
It's a lot of things; it's also about $800.00
But if you truly were looking for a decent one-in-all device this is it.
It has a 3.5” TFT-LCD touch screen with over 65K colors.
It’s also a MP3 player, but I have found that you need to use a large SD-Card for storage. But that’s cool because then you load your favorite music on many little SD-Cards and just put them in as needed.
Enough bloviating here’s a link http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/review/htc-blue-angel-en.shtml
Good luck with your all-in-one purchase.
The only real let downs: the speaker is kinda weak and the camera is way down on the list of quality digital cameras. But it's a good phone and e-mail getter. :1drink
