View Full Version : Mystic handlebar on BatBike

I managed to find a NOS handlebar for an R100 Msytic at a bargain price. This bar had been recommended to me once when I said I was thinking of a lower bar, due to it being lower and less pulled back but still similar to the regular R100R bar.
The installation was mostly easy, except for the rusted-in end weight. Riding impressions are good so far, although I have not yet had time to do more than ten miles at a time with it. The lower/more forward position feels comfortable without being so much of a crouch that I think I'd get really uncomfy after a while, and steering inputs seem much more positive and effective.

Has anybody ever changed the handlebar configuration on a r1100r over to a tubular style bar and liked what they ended up with? Sometimes I think it would be nice to be leaning a bit further forward.

Probably nobody here in the Airheads section, as you're talking about an Oilhead!

Thanks for your kind compliments guys!
carockwell, you must be looking at the 'before' picture. In the 'after' pics
you can see all manner of damage from a couple of get-offs. It will be repaired.
BZ, yes, I've considered bar-end mirrors but not for long because of the extra width. I have to thread the bike in and out of the garage between a wall and a car, and it's a single-car garage. Plus if I ever have to get it through a standard doorway... Also I like having the mirrors closer to my forward line of sight- less time spent getting my eyes from straight ahead to the mirrors and back.

Thanks for the post. I have been looking for a lower bar for my R100R also, now I know what to ask for. Good looking bike!

Thanks Rick and Tina; I rather like the look too. Definitely seems a little sexier.
I'll be taking the cage to NG.

The only downside in my experience is that the "S" or Euro handlebar compells the rider to hold a more forward lean, thus reducing your range of motion in the saddle. Saddle squirming is helpful for those of us who are old and fat.

Not necessarily true if you are using bar bax, they make several different styles and types to give you what you are looking for. On my S I installed the S bars that are used on several bikes (90s, 100rs, K75s that I know off) and then used a set of bar bax. Moved me up and back. It is easier on my back, gives me more room to move around, but does not put me as much into the cockpit, either... All choices to make
BTW, I doubt that you are old and fat, just experienced and have wisdom! ;)
BatBike: I like it... if the owner likes it, even better :D

Euro bars on my commuter bike. USA bars for the touring ride. Bar bax are useful, but would detract from the otherwise immaculate elegance of the airhead aesthetics.

There you go... if you are lucky and have a multitude of airheads you can set them up like woodnsteel said. That would be the best way. :drink
