Well, another New Year's Day Ride is in the books. Maybe not much of one
but it is done.
A few of us had the bright idea to meet for coffee at Peet's. For one, an
hour's ride. For me, 20 minutes tops.
It was just starting to rain when I left home. No worries. All the gear.
As I got on the freeway, the wind started to pick up and I decided that I'd
be better off on the city streets given the crap that was flying across the
road (never mind I was getting blown all over the place).
Made it to Peet's just after 9 and as I stood in line for my coffee, I made
my own little puddle everywhere I stood :D
Having resigned myself to being the only one foolish enough to be out riding
today, I took my seat outside in the lee of the building with my coffee and
pumpkin scone.
Along comes Sean on his GSA. As we talked, the wind picked up.
Several anxious glances at the bikes reveal they are still standing (I'd guess
the wind speed to be gusting to 30-35mph or so).
Coffee and lots of chatter later, we decided to head out given the break in
the weather.
For me, the ride home was pretty dry. Windy but dry. However, back on
the city streets, a different story. Lots of lights out or malfunctioning. So
many people have no f'n clue what to do when the signal lights are out...

Happy New Year to you all and I hope you were able to start the new year
with a ride.
