I bought a K75C last month for $500. The previous owner wanted to get rid of it because he wiped out and broke his collar bone on it. BTDT.
I replaced the right side footpeg plate and put on some new tires.
It had a couple of dings in the tank and the faring was shot. I got a used faring on ebay from Australia. My now buddy, Milo at Mountain View Cycle Paint (http://www.mountainviewcyclepaint.com) painted my K75S 2 years ago. I brought him the tank and faring to make it like new again...

Here's a link to the whole painting process:

Yes, I'll post photos when it's all together.
I'm renovating my kitchen right now and it's
taking up all my time in the evenings after work.
The bike should be all togther by early January.

I knew you were saving that photo for an opportune moment.
I think that was a mix of Dieter and Jacko.
You know it was a lot of fun at the time, but I think I may be regretting my actions from that evening. :bottle

Just started on mine. Have a K100LT and the upper fairing was cracked where the windshield attaches. Bought a fairing off Ebay and when it arrived from the UK, the seller did an pretty bad job of packing and the mail service did a similar job of handling so I had a primed fairing that was all busted. Fortunately insurance paid for all put $50. Took a chance and bought another K1100LT fairing off Ebay after finding it would fit the K100LT and paid about $45 total. Its red and I'm planning on repainting the entire bike to the original black. Also plan on replacing most of the rubber as I am finding alot of it is getting pretty dry and cracked.

Plan on the following:

Replace rear rotor / brake pads
Replace coolant reservior (got a used one off Ebay $9.00)
New front fork springs (Progressive)
Driving lights (still thinking about which ones)
XM Radio mount

Hopefully I can get this done before the spring thaw...

Steve,
The bike looks awesome! Can you elaborate a little on the replacement of the fairing? I'd like to add a similar fairing to my bike, but am not sure where to start in terms of sourcing the right part(s).

TIA—JT

The bike is a K75C or T (for Touring) as some folks say. The previous owner went down on the right side as the low air front tire colapsed. The fairing's right indicator was worn down one inch deep. Too much damage to repair. As kismet would have it there was a mint green C or T fairing (round headlight) on eBay in Australia. After shipping (which I forgot to add in) I only saved about $30 off of new from the dealer. Painters love new primed parts from the dealer. Used parts take time to clean, prep and prime, so they cost more to paint.

Here is a pix of the fairing after shippment from the UK. Knew when I saw the condition of the box that the fairing was toast. Had the paint shop give me an estimate for repair and it came to about $400. Could buy a new one for about $450. Fortunately I have my ebay set to e-mail listing matching my bike so when ever there are new items posted I get a e-mail. Good way of looking for parts. Picked up a red K1100LT fairing for about $45 and will repaint to the classic black.

Hey... the C looks great. I have an 87 C, and its good to see one taken good care of and shine again. I was wondering what type of seat you have on the bike. Is that a BMW comfort seat? I need to replace mine and I liked the look of that one.

When you were preping the tank how did you remove the BMW decals and the knee pads?

Got the K100LT stripped yesterday and have most of the parts ready to go. Having trouble getting the mirrors out of the bracket.

here is my painter's ( www.mountainviewcyclepaint.com ) thread on the paint job:
http://www.a2zautoforums.com/showthread.php?t=3859&highlight=bmw

A hot blow dryer will soften the adhesive on the decals. then pull them off slowly with a pair of pliers.

It's a C. The K75T wore a factory clear windshield, probably the most buffet-inducing design ever made by man.

Nice job, Steve. Very handsome!

The heat gun worked great on the decals and the knee pads. Assume I can use the same technique on the cases to remove the badge and reflectors?

So what's the best way to deal with the left over goo from the decals and knee pads? I used goo off on the decals and it seemed to work but the knee pads are proving more difficult.

I've had great results with Goo Gone (TM) or WD40.

Finally got my 91 K100LT torn down and into the paint shop. Plan on going with the original color which was classic black (code 670). All total it was about 15 parts and the estimate is $1,400. Thanks for all the info on prepping the parts the painter was much appreciative and so was my wallet.

I am debating about adding a logo to the center of the front fairing between the windshield and the headlight and on the back of the rear top case. I have attached the logo and was wondering if anyone knows if this is an offical logo or any background on it. I like the look and want to add a little personaliztion to bike. Thought the red wings would be a good contrast to the black paint. The other consideration is since this bike is a 91 is the logo too old school for it.

Well I just picked up my parts from the paint shop and am looking forward to getting my K100LT back together. The weather here in Colo Springs is starting to get nice and I'm looking forward to getting back on the road.

I almost went with the classic black but at the last moment decided to gop with the Oriental Blue. Had the graphics folks apply the winged logo (turned out a little different than what I orginally posted. Pictures to follow.

Unfortunately, while the parts were out for paint I got busy with home improvement projects .. know how that goes...and did not get BMW rondels, replacement rubber parts, and rear brake rotor ordered so it will be a while longer ...

While the bike is stripped I notice a lot of road dirt that had been hidding under the fairings, etc. Any recommendations on cleaning? I guess my fear is getting previously exposed components wet and causing electrical problems
