Hello,
I have been afflicted with the BMW cycle obsession as well.
For Father's day, my wife brought home a "new" 1985 K100RT with 10,000 miles on the odometer mounted and 78,000 miles on the odometer in the box of extra parts. Her hopes were to lessen the sting of having to sell my 1999 Dyna wideglide. (9/11 was hard on us aircraft mechanics.) Mission accomplished, I love this ride. That being said, gets me to my question. Have a couple of oil leaks that I am going after. The one under the oil/water pump looks pretty staight forward. The one behind the clutch also looks like something I can handle. The oil leak that I am concerned about and have found nothing on is coming from the aft most header pipe to engine connection. My concern is excessive piston ring blowby or even a broken ring. Anybody have any experience with this problem?

This is one of the really odd ones.. but bet it's the inner valve cover gasket.

IIRC - there are two small channels - tunnels actually - that go from the bottom of the plug gallery to the bottom of the head. These are to drain water out of the plug gallery area. IIRC - they come out between 1&2, and 3&4 cylinders. A leaky inner valve cover gasket will result in oil dripping out about where you see it.

Now - all of this might be a figment of my imagination.. but I remember a post on this subject once, and remember looking for the drain holes, so let us know what'cha find.

YMMV and I may be a raging baboon..
