I aquired a Givi Maxia 50 top case and would like to mount it on '96 R1100RT. Givi recommends using their E183 adapter. Does anyone out there know if this is a bolt-on to the OEM rack, or is a replacement that requires getting rid of the stock part? Any description of the E183 is appreciated. Any other ideas welcome too!

Not sure if ours is an E183 or not, but it replaces a stock RT top case mount with a Givi plate. You take off the rack part that goes from the legs to the mounting points right behind the seat. You get a couple of extenders that go on the legs over the tail light. There's a little frame that bolts on and then the Givi plate bolts on top of the whole thing.

Here's are some pictures of the mounting points.

Underneath, right behind the seat. You can see the cross piece that replaces the stock rack.

A longer view. You can see the piece that builds the frame and then the plate bolted to it.

What case are you using on top of this plate?
