I installed a Remus Carbon Fiber on my K1200RS about a year ago. It's not a "real" cabon fiber - just a wrap over what I think is the Titanium pipe. The sound is much better, but not obnoxious loud - wouldn't want that. The bike is more peppy in the higher RPM range. If you go one step further and install a Power Commander and get your bike dyno tuned with the new exhaust you could see some very noticable increases in HP, based on what I've seen.

I installed a Remus system with the "street" silencer........
I could feel the added power but a bit too loud for me......
Motorhead on the LT site wrote up a fix which consisted of inserting a 4" piece of stainless steel tubing into the silencer and......wow !! 1/2 the noise with no loss of power..........
I'd do it again in a heartbeat...

I love the way my bike sounds with my Remus Ti pipe. It really "wakes it up" soundwise. Changes the sound from a whirr to a subdued growl. The nice thing is that its not too loud either. As far as power goes...I cant really tell a difference between 130 and 140hp. The bike is fast. Thats all I need to know. :thumb

I have only seen the black hole pipe on the net..never in person. The have sound bites of the pipe...sounds like my old honda Cbr...might be a bit loud for a beemer. But all I really want to know is the Remus worth the 900 bucks your going to drop on ?? :dunno

That's a hard question. People spend some very serious money on some things that IMHO are mostly for show rather than go - things I can't justify - but apparently they can. As for aftermarket pipes, on a bike like the K1200RS the first big payoff is the sound. BMW folks generally don't seem to like really loud pipes, but most do like something rich and throaty. I actually bought an R100RS once in large part because the BUB exhaust sound sooooo good when it fired up. The bike sounded like it was ready to go! That's also one of the things I like about the Remus on my K12RS. When it turns over it sounds excellent and I always get a little rush of anticipation. In it's own way, I think "it sounds good" is just as valid as "it looks good". IOW, if it excites you about the bike, then that's worth something.

As for performance, given the high state of tune of modern bikes, I don't think you'll see a major improvement. I noticed some on my bike, but without a dyno test, hard to say if it seems faster just because it *sounds* faster. OTOH, install an aftermarket chip or tuning system like a Power Commander that will let the engine take advantage of the reduced back pressure and you might have some significant performance improvement. I'm going to go with the PC after seeing an identical bike to mine pick up another 16 rear wheel HP.

Another thing is weight reduction. The Remus I bought is supposed to be 14 pounds lighter than the stock system. I didn't weigh them, but from handling both I'd say that's about right. And, although I've not seen claims for improved mileage, since installing the Remus I've gotten as high as 55mph on my K12RS with touring load on the Interstate running 75 to 85. Never got that before... :dance

Being thats this is going to be my first Beemer, I want the most for my money. I've been around beemers my entire life...but my first bike wasnt a BMW. I gave in to my buddies and bought a rocket. My father wanted to give me his his 74 R90S...but I didnt want to start off on a classic. He has a couple of slash two's in collection too. I rode his 2002 Lt Elite and fell in love with the shaft drive. So were should I start?? Is the k1200RS as great as Ive been reading?? I Guess I need some help on making my mind up......

msheedy, don't mean to hijack your thread, but you Remus guys: Where did you get 'em. I did some surfing last night and didn't find a US distributor.

Remus on mine for 15K plus miles (I have a '98 with 50K miles on it). You can feel the difference in the midrange and the sound is throaty enough to be enticing without being obnoxious like so many Harley units.
