2000 r1100rt or new

i've have the opportunity to obtain a 2000rt abs with about 26,000km locally. since 2000 what have been the major changes (beside the 2spark) and those who have one, do you prefer the 2000 or would you rather get a new one?

askig price is $16,500 CDN which is about 11880 USD.

My buddy just gor a 97 R1100RT that looked new with 16,000 miles. He paid $8500 US.

The 2000 had a 5 speed tranny, soft three spoke wheels, 50cc less displacement and a slightly different fairing with a smaller headlight.

If I could get a new looking R1100RT for roughly have the price of a new R1150RT I would go for it. If it was closer to three-quarters I would go for the new bike. Especially with the 0.9% financing.

My K12RS was one of the last '99s (bought in dec. '99), got the 2.9% financing. I had originally been looking it used bikes, but with the difference in finance costs my payments were LOWER on the new bike than they would have been on a '93 with 25,000 miles. (though I had to stretch the term a year).

The lights are very nice and 6th gear is very smooth from 65 on up. I'm told the two spark engine makes a big difference compared to many(not all) earlier bikes.

The DS motor is way, way nice. I spent some time with a Rockster and had an absolute ball with it.

I had a chance to ride a 2004 and 2002 R1150RT ,a total of 1300 miles. In the mountains , these brakes killed the fun factor for me because , going into a tight curve , I did'nt have the feel of the brakes like I do on my 96 . Come into a curve that is a little tighter than you thought, and grab the brakes, and you will understand what I mean. That power boost system is not really needed on this bike. I probably would get use to it , but there was no adjustment period for my 96 at all. The gearing with 6th was also terrible in the mountains. I was either in too low of a gear or too high. 5th gear on this bike is not the same 5th gear on the 96. If they would just add a 6th, that would have been OK. After riding these 2 bikes, It was a real pleasure to get back on my 96, 100K mile RT. This bike , I swear, rides better to me now , as it did when I bought it new .

after much consideration, i took the plung e bought a new r1100s. got it home in sept, and managed to get almost 1000km on it before winter put a halt to riding this season. (it was -30c this morning with wind chill)

the r11rt was okay, but i wasn't really comfy with the seller, etc


think i will make the unrally in cody in july next year, and the edmonton gang is planning a centennial celebration ride, probably also in july. edmonton to yukon and back...
