Here are some pictures of the engine and tranny swap that my dad and I have been working on for the last couple of days. As many of you know my tranny conked out about three weeks ago or something so I had to get a replacement. It turns out that Dad had one at home in the garage attached to our spare K75 engine. We decided to kill two birds with one stone and just went ahead and swapped them both out just for grins.

Not a bad life for the original tranny.

In with the old and out with the new.

Me making a point as if I actually know what the hell I'm doing. In my defense though, I did tear everything off from the transmission back on my own.

Another shot. I think that I'm wiping off my hands here.

Psst... That's a prop wrench. We forgot to take pictures during the process.

Ahh a good day's work doing manly things in the garage and ending with manly drinks in the garage. Thats Blanton's in the flask that I had left over from my brother's wedding.

So thats it for today. I'll post some Rounder-esque pics once we get everything buttoned back up on the back end. It should be another chilly day tomorrrow for a test ride.

Nice goin' guys. I'd rather work on my old K75 than anything else, period. Even giant jobs like yours are kinda fun.....as you found out at the end when you had to fake your pics. :laugh

Don't ever let things go this far tho.

Now let us know if it works, huh? Just kidding, I'm sure it will be fine. Now just think of all the money you saved doing the work yourself. :thumb

Don't ever let things go this far tho.And Jon did this just 'cause the muffler bearing was looking a bit worn..

FWIW - I saw two K75 engines on Ebay last week. 60k one for $275 buy-it-now, and a 16k one for $375 buy-it-now. Neither of them had gotten a single bid. They simply don't wear out very fast (350k is considered normal.) so the reasale value of an engine is about nil.

If I needed engine work - I'd simply buy a used one. Cheaper than buying the seals you need to seal up a K engine after you've rebuilt it.

YMMV and all that but I don't think so..

glad to see that your dad's spare engine is getting put to good use. now send the tranny off to get it fixed so you still have a full spare lying around.

wrenching with friends rocks. its even better when that friend is your dad. :thumb for bill.
