Okay, so I wanna change the oil and filer on my 85 k100, but I can't find what size filter to get anywhere?

I know, i could just wander to the BMW place and ask for one, but there is a auto parts store right around the corner and I gots a lot to do today.

So, since I can't find the size in my maitenance manual, can anyone help out?

There are substitute filters listed on the IBMWR website. I don't use them. While they may FIT - the specifications and quality are open to question.

A filter costs ~ $13.00 with the complete kit (O ring, crush washer - which none of the aftermarket come with) and since I change mine about every 8,000 miles, that works out to $0.001625/per mile in filter cost. I can live with that..

Someone once said the cheapest thing on a BMW motorcycle is the owner.. and they're not far wrong, but sometimes cheap isn't the same as wise.

It is not so much the cost, as convience (As in , poor planning on my part not to already have one on hand) that I am trying for.

I was at the ibmwr site and didn't see anything, but a return visit just now turned up what I needed. Thanks. :clap

If you can find a parts store that can order Mahle filters, the OC 91 filter is the direct replacement for the BMW filter (BMW filters are made by Mahle) and it comes with all the correct crush washers included.

If you have a K-Bike, the OC 91D1 is the correct filter and it includes not only the crush washers but the large O-Ring for the filter cover plate. The only difference between the OC 91 and the OC 91D1 is the large O-Ring.
