I thought it might be the next bike for me....
Until I saw the position of the riders knees...
I just cannot ride all day with my knees that bent....
too many years of too much fun....the legs won't take it any more...
Sad....

Notice the metal below the pegs...very likely you can still lower the pegs or someone will make a lowering kit (like the soon to be old RS/GT). IMHO, from the looks, it's not sporty enough, but I will not pass final judgement until I can test ride one. The bars sure look like the new RT, I test road the RT at the RA rally and I did not like them (just my opinion).

JimBud,
It looks like the rider has his toes on the peg, with his heel up in the crook of the frame, and his body mashed up against the tank. One could ride this bike with knees much straighter.
But I'd like to see one in person. Does anyone know if it will start showing up at the IMS now that it has been revealed?

At least it has a low exhaust! Looks like the bike for me. Gotta have cruise control.

The cruise control button(s) were visible in other photos.
I was wondering about the bar end weights. Are they for show or function? The current GT does not have these... does not need these.

I hear the GT will start making the rounds at shows in Jan.

The New GT will start making the rounds at IMS beginning with the Long Beach, CA show.

I've seen this bike before but the bike I saw was called FJR 1300. Thumbs down on styling.

If it doesn't use oil like it thinks it's gasoline......I'm in. I'll say goodbye to the boxer.
I hope it looks better in person. It seems somehow uninspiring.

They have that same plain look on the new K1200S, a choice of a sold blue or a solid grey which makes that bike seem frumpy for what it really is. The Bumble Bee black and yellow version seems to fit the personality of the S much better.
Even the K1200R has some kind of two tone thing going on to jazz it up though I think the black and yellow here missed the mark on the R version.
I'm thinking I'd like to have the K1200GT, but this looks like they took an 1200R and slapped a faring on it and put bar risers on to make it more upright.
Let's face it, the older GT's were solid colors so maybe it will grow on us.

There are many bikes I lust after. They grab you viscerally. You think you got to have them. The just grab you and you want to go for a wild ride until the next one comes along and grabs your I with a new vesceral thrill.
Then you see something shapely and elegant. You don’t lust after it you just deeply desire it and you know 100K down the road you will still turn your head to look at it before the garage door closes when you go home.
I desired the old GT, in fact a used one would not have trouble making it into the Lilydale garage to keep the Roadster company. The new 1200GT and the 800 in another thread don’t make me lust or desire. They are more like the good looking girlfriend of a friend that you really enjoy having around but you would never think of dating yourself. I hope I am wrong, but I think we will just be friends.

I have a feeling when you twist the throttle on this girl, you may just get the ride of your life. :brad
I'm going to reserve judgement until the day I can hop on one and take it for a test ride. That Duolever suspension gizmo in the front is suppose to be amazing at keeping the bike from diving during hard breaking plus it has all that four cylinder power.
I agree that looks make up much of why we choose a bike, but while on the bike all we can see is the road and feel the performance. Having said that, there are tons of bikes I'd like to have in my garage just for the looks.

Point well taken. I have a couple of years to go before I would be ready to add it to the garage for the ride I have in mind. I was not taken with the original K when it came out. Over time it, dressed as a GT won a place in my heart. So too might this one.

Truth be known, I really like the looks of my 04 RT and had thought about trading it for the newer current RT, but the looks are so different and now I'm thinking that I'll just keep it when the time comes for a new bike. It's bound to become a classic.
I had given thought to getting an LT for more comfort when riding two up, but to me it seems somewhat too big for just tooling around and the GT seems to be larger than the RT and yet still agile enough for sport riding. I say seems to be larger, but it may not be as comfortable for long distance riding as an RT. I have no idea, but hope to explore it.
I'm also spoiled riding with a full faring and while I wouldn't mind owning a naked bike like the K1200R, when it comes time to part with my money, the GT may get priority.

Personally I'm not a fan of the new edgey, stealth fighter style BMW designers have moved to.
The flow of my old K12 gave me that warm fuzzy gotta have feeling, this one notsomuch.. Will have to wait and see what it looks like up close and personal..

I am. I thought the Honda CBR1100XX was one of the most beautiful bikes made. I'm not a fan of wacky colors or tacked on stuff. The new GT trips my trigger. I only wish it came without the CANBUS and old ABS, no linked or power brakes. I might be a F800ST buy just because of that.

The new designs are hit or miss for me. There are little moments on the bikes that i don't understand. For example, on the R1200RT all of the motion of the shapes on the front half of the bike focus your attention on the kidney grill thingie - that modest unimpressive bit of silver colored plastic. Why would you focus your attention on that thing? I don't get it. Otherwise, I think the bike is fantastic (though I'd guess a bear to keep clean!). The same question applies to the K12R. Everything, again, hinges on the weird silver headlight. It's an odd thing to hang a design on. I can imagine the design meetings where the rationale for this approach was carefully constructed. The rest of the design flows creatively, but then this nugget of pretense and style (not the good kind). It's the kind of overworked overwrought approach that I've come to expect from Aprilia.
BUT, I always thought the old K12RS/GT was most reminiscent of a tadpole that had gone belly up and was beginning to bloat - not a good look for a bike. It worked 'ok' in the original, but the subsequent bikes did nothing for me. They needed the balance of the hard edged nose to help balance out the bloat.
The F800, OTOH, sings to me. It looks like someone had a good idea and followed through and didn't overwork it (see comments above). Sharp and clean and lacking the pomposity of some of the other designs.
I think someone should put one of each of the above bikes in my hands for me to further evaluate their design and function.

I'm in the minority opinion on this one. That design is harsh. I think it should say UPS up the side of it, what a block. I love the soft lines on my 03 GT. I sold my 10 year old LT to get away from the square lines. I bet I'll have to wait 10 more years for the soft lines to come back.

Agreed! Slab sided scow of a bike. I see a more angular look to many proto types. Many still find a way to convey a sense of soul that seems lacking in this Teutonic effort. I hope it does not take 10 years to wrap what is probably and excellent set of mechanics in a design that speaks to me as a rider.

Same here, Gail. It really doesn't do anything for me. If anything, it reminds me of a Kawasaki Concours, which looked dated when it was introduced and has just proceeded to get even older looking.
But hey, I ride a GS, so who am I to talk? :ha
Weird BMW Things Department: Today, I saw a K12GT like Gail's with new K12GT bags and a lowered pipe. I saw him in traffic, so I couldn't really get a look at how the bags were affixed.

Designs appeal in the subjective. What I want to know is can I ride all day and not have permanent arse damage, ride all night and see ALL the critters on the sides of the road. And do I have enuff gas to get lost and not worry about it...

I used to think the design was just fugly, but now it's just ugly. I know I don't want to try to get all the smashed bugs out of all those squared lines on the front of the bike. That alone will do it for me.

OK. So BMW's industrial espionage operatives broke into Kawasaki's studios and stole the design for the new updates Concours.

Nice of you to do the design analysis, Scott; reminded me of those Werner Buehrer ones they used to run in Road & Track.
I think BMW should give Scott a crack at designing the next one. And also commission Giugiaro at Ital Design to do a competing one, with both designs posted on our forum for a vote. It wouldn't really be a conflict of interest, because our members have no financial stake in the outcome.

Saw it in person at the Minneapolis CW Bike Show today. Did not like it in pictures and seeing it in person did not change things. It will sell. The dealer reps were working 3 different guys real hard and in one case it looked like it would be a sale.
It is the motorcycle equivelant of the BMW Z3 M Coupe. You know it will handle well, be fast and be a good grand touring machine, but when you walk away from it and look back your forehead wrinkles and you say huuuhhhh?
The Honda Pacific Coast was a good bike at the wrong time with the wrong audiance. The new K1200GT looks like a sab sided B. M. Wacific Roast to me.
