Today was my first-ever ride with GPS. I picked up a Nav II for the 1200GS I'm hedging my bets I'm gonna buy, and jerry-rigged it to sit on my K75 for the day (I have a RAM mount on order for the 75, it' just not here yet.)

So... I did a little creative riding... Left Front Royal on VA-522 south, took the cutover at Oasis Winery (VA-635) for Hume, then from Hume via VA-688 down to Warrenton, where I stopped at Black Wolf Coffee... corner of 211 and 15/29, great place.

From there I headed up route 15/29 towards Centreville where I picked up a riding buddy from work (CBR-9-something) and we headed up to Great Falls, MD for a small hike out to Olmstead Island and a look at the falls....or what is left of them without rain..

Sure was hot... of course, when you're overdressed for a cold morning and then surprise, you're hiking... well.. I didn't hold up too bad all things considerred...

From there we took off up River Road to White's Ferry, did a u-turn, and contrinued back up the river more to Point of Rocks, MD. Crossing the bridge back into Virginia, we split up for the day... with me hanging a hard right to head over towards Berlin Pike and Purcelville... I meanderred quite nicely back down towards 17, then took VA-688 (again) through some beautiful hills...

...from 17 down to VA-55/Markham and back home.

Man, did I hit some nice backcountry roads after I left Great Falls. Beautiful riding day, and had immense loads of fun getting lost and found again :)

42.9 mph Driving avg

And even got neat stats on the ride! Man, all these years I did without...

Ahh...very cool bro! There's some beautiful country there it looks like. Gosh, I've been riding all this time without a computer too...So...it is worth it?

It's definitely worth it for the cool toy factor.... and also worth the ability to just go someplace and ride. I did plan a route ahead of time, and had as much fun deviating from it as I did following it. Guess I'm a happy deviant still, after all this time :=) I knew I had certain roads I wanted to try out... and no clue how to get there.

Worth it? Yeah. Necessary? Naaaaah.... but then niether is the computer I'm writing this up with :)

Those falls look mighty nice. I definitely have to get to VA some time.
