I am refurbushing a 1990 R100GSPD. I will be renewing the rear main seal.

Do I remove the guide ring (the thick 5-hole disc on the end of the crank)?

If so, HOW do I remove the guide ring?

How best to remove the rear main seal itself?

How best to reinstall a new rear main seal?

I'm going to renew the oil pump o-ring; any tips? Should I use new cap-screws? Should I order a new cover plate?

Any tips in reinstalling a clutch? I'm using a new disc, and 6 new allen-head cap-screws

It's not that hard of a job. Just takes time. But, it's VERY important to block the crank from moving forward. Ed Korn (http://www.cycleworks.net) makes a tool to set the seal in at the proper depth. While it's not necessary, it is easier.

It's not necessary to replace the cover of the oil pump unless it's warped. It's best to add a little oil on the O ring to keep it in place. It's possible for the O ring to come out of its grove during installation.

As far as the clutch goes, the only tricky part is aligning the clutch. Ed Korn makes an alignment tool. Another way is to leave the parts some what loose (don't tighten the bolts) reattach the tranny and engage the clutch to align the parts. Then remove the tranny and torque down all the bolts.

Any way read up on Airheads list above as they will give good advice. Also try (www.Boxerworks.com) and (http://home.jps.net/~snowbum/techindex.htm) for additional comments.
