I'm totally out of anything good to drink right now (bad I know), so I just threw something together with what I had. It's kind of girly, but it's pretty good. Here goes:
In a rocks glass, combine,
Ice
1.5 oz Vodka
0.5 oz Midori Liqeur
Cranberry Juice
Give it a good stir and have a sip. The cranberry juice slighty bitters the palate and then the sweetness of the Midori kicks in, followed by the aftertaase of vodka to clean every thing up. It's kind of interesting. It should be intersting to see if I get my homework done tonight or not. Whoops.

Oh no.
Midori.
I can't drink it anymore. In 1984, I drank a whole ton of those things and lost an afternoon. Tina tells me it was hell trying to get me up the stairs out of Aquarium station so she could put me in a cab. There was no way I was making it home on the subway that day.

What's Malbec???
Here ya go...
<blockquote>'One of the traditional "Bordeaux varietals", Malbec has characteristics that fall somewhere between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A midseason ripener, it can bring very deep color, ample tannin, and a particular plum-like flavor component to add complexity to claret blends.
It is known in much of France as Côt, and, in Cahors, also as Auxerrois. There are in fact hundreds of local synonyms, since Malbec at one time was widely planted all over the country. Sensitivity to frost and proclivity to shatter or coulure is the primary reason Malbec has become a decreasing factor in most of France. Although plantings in the Medoc have decreased by over two-thirds since the mid-twentieth century, Malbec is now the dominant red varietal in the Cahors area. The Appellation Controlée regulations for Cahors require a minimum content of 70%.
Malbec truly comes into its own in Argentina, where it is the major red varietal planted. Much of the Malbec vines there were transplanted from Europe prior to the outbreak of phylloxera and most is therefore ungrafted, on its own roots. Sadly, over the years, the bug has infested Argentina, too, and vineyards are being replanted on resistant rootstock.
Argentines often spell it "Malbeck" and make wines from it that similar in flavor to those made in Europe, but with softer, lusher structure, more like New World Merlot. Another difference: where French examples are usually considered short-lived, Argentine Malbecs seem to age fairly well.
Malbec is also planted in Chile, and there's relatively little and recent acreage in California and Australia. It is usually blended with other red varietals in these countries.
Successful Argentine Malbec growers claim that, in order to develop full maturity and distinction, Malbec needs "hang time" even after sugar levels indicate ripeness. Otherwise, immature Malbec can be very "green" tasting, without its characteristic notes of plum and anise.'</blockquote>

Sounds like a variation of a Sea Breeze. Minus grapefruit juice plus melon liqueur.
I'll stick with a Tequila Sunrise, made with fine tequila and very little grenadine. :)
Speaking of girly drinks, my first wife's drink of choice was a Greyhound; a Salty Dog with no salt. I found she was really good with rope after a few of them. ;)
I'm totally out of anything good to drink right now (bad I know), so I just threw something together with what I had. It's kind of girly, but it's pretty good. Here goes:

Okay - Let's play "name Garth's drink"!
I'm thinking maybe "Salty Jolly Rancher Dog" in honor of the Salty Dog and those great little watermelon candies. When I try to imagine those flavors together, though, I sort of get "dead dog". :)

The Balvenie: 15 year, single cask. Awesome. Bourbon cask. Sweet and low on the peatiness. For a big Bourbon-head like me, one of the few Scotch Singles I really dig (Aberlour A'Bunadh, being one other, but that's more on the Sherry side...).
Hey, great thread! And to think, it started with a Vodka/Midori invention :)

Great! Then you'd share the same tastes (minus the tobacco) with my best friend, who's an Islay-nut! (The Smokier, the better!) But I've been learning to get towards the peat-taste and recently tried a Laphroaig 15 that I really liked.
Otherwise, it's Elijah Craig 12 or Bulleit Frontier for me (I still like the concept of some Bagpipe tunes to go with the libations!).

I've never really warmed up to Scotch. Oban is alright, Balvenie Doublewood is good, but most of the rest leave me a bit underwhelmed.

So does really good potato vodka too. Chalk it up to my Polish heritage or something. :dunno

Boy...that stuff is dark...
you should see the "Black Wheat"
Our Black Wheat arrives to relieve the bleak bore of Wisconsin's winter. Rich and chewy, this bottle-conditioned weiss is bursting with Midwestern wheat, oats, rye and finished by malted barley. This style is a rare gem even in the Black Forests of Bavaria. We brew it now as an accompaniment to meaty feasts or to sip near a roaring fire.
Expect this beer to pour the deepest black body topped by an opulent head of lip-smacking foam. Roasted chocolate and toasted caramel notes brim over the top. Lavish spice aromas of clove and cinnamon are promoted naturally by the yeast we import especially for this most individual of brews.

Yeah but I was up having Saturday breakfast at 6:40 and was on those beautiful roads by 9 after working hard on a bottle of Gran Marnier Friday night. Ok, so I was mostly trying to keep the Gran Marnier away from George! :doh
George was having a good time. :buds

I didn't know that there was a brewery in Black River Falls, WI. Tonight I'm drinking the Fatty Boombalatty Belgian-Style Ale from the Furthermore Brewery.
http://www.furthermorebeer.com
It kinda sweet and kinda hoppy, but not TOO hoppy. I like it. Fun website too.
The brewers have roots in the American Players Theater in Spring Green, WI. I'm drinking a good drink and toasting thespians tonight. Welcome to the Milwaukee market Furthermore.

Some good Merlot followed by a nice Bonny Doon dessert wine.
I'd go back to red...I think I might.
Missed you guys at the rally.

Double Ketel one martini dry w/ 2 spanish queen olives. My Friday night before dinner cocktail ritual. Later, I'll sip a little Bookers while watching "Dog fights" on the history channel.

Your standard Leinenkugels...but that was last night. Weekend swilling has not yet begun.
We picked up a sampler sixer of New Glarus brews last weekend. I'll be able to savor some of the same stuff from a bottle that I did from a rally mug.

I have discovered SIDECARS!
http://cocktails.about.com/od/s/r/side_car_cktl.htm
They're of the martini family, and have a lovely sour, citrus taste that I find quite drinkable.
When I hear BlackFly break out the shaker and the ice, I just jump for joy.
And the provenance... A real MOTORCYCLE libation!
Salut! Skol!
Shake up a Sidecar tonight!

Get thirst quencher with a generous lashing of ginger. One drink you are totally relaxed, two and you are legless and after three you become invisible!:buds

Your favorite Tequila . . . whatever, let's not get into an argument.
In a rocks glass filled with crushed ice, I add half jigger roses lime, half jigger Cointreau and top it off with the Margarita mix, whatever brand you like.
Pour a shot, hit it, bang the rocks. The ratio of shots/sips is up to you.

While travelling in Mexico this past January in the company of a rider who is gluten intolerant, we were often sampling margaritas because he couldn't have a beer. In one place we were served a grapefruit margarita, which I rather liked. I've done some testing in the lab... err, kitchen, and this is the result:
4 parts grapefruit juice
4 parts tequila
1 part triple sec
1 part water
1 part sugar
serve on the rocks, or delete the water and serve over crushed ice.
The amount of sugar depends on just how tart the grapefruit juice is, and how tart you like it. If you use ruby red grapefruit, you might want half as much sugar. I was using the cocktail grapefruits that my father in law grows, and they are about as sweet as oranges, so I didn't need any sugar at all.

For an after dinner drink, or before dinner, or whenever, try:
1 shot Kahlua
1 shot brandy
Optional - short(or long) dribble of Irish cream added to the above.
Over ice in a highball glass.
Simple, yet effective.
