For those of you who missed riding to the redwoods, a report.

Knary posted a call to bikes with the destination of Richardson State Park
in Northern California. Never mind he and about half the folks that showed
were from Oregon. Heck, even Ohio was represented.

The Northern California group consisted of Burnzilla, DarrylRi, kbasa +
MrsKbasa, Carrie and myself. Making a special guest appearance and just
in from OH, lorazepam (sp?).

We met at kbasa's place for coffee and pastries before setting out on what
turned into a beautiful ride North (no pictures, just fog and lots of it).

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301124-M.jpg

Our route took us up 101 to 128 and over to 1. A stop for gas before heading
off on 128.

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301149-M-1.jpg

While the fog really did get in the way of any pictures, heading down 128
toward the coast sure didn't disappoint. The road takes you along the
Through the Anderson Valley (home of Anderson Valley Brewing), the
Navarro River and is a very scenic ride with just the right amount of
twist.

All too soon, we arrive in Fort Bragg and enjoy some lunch at the Seal
Of Approval right on the main drag.

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301165-M.jpg

Back aboard the bikes, we roar up 1 toward the Redwoods. Hwy 1 takes a
bend back inland toward the town of Leggett. Here, it meets with The 101
(there you go burnzilla :D). Just as we reach the intersection we meet
Scott, Bob and Russ heading down for some fun.

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301191-M.jpg

Off to the campsite to get set up.

Here's a shot fo the Northern CA crew (minus Gail). They are (L-R),
Carrie, Darryl, Dave, Stephen, Tina and yours truly.

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301219-M.jpg

Honu and company arrived and built this condo.

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301273-M.jpg

There was some discussion among campers of Home Owner's Associations,
dues and other CC&R's :D

A genorous spread was laid out...

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301240-M.jpg

Followed by samatiches for dinner.

A little fireside photography...

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301293-M.jpg

Some bench racing...

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301312-M.jpg

And finally, sleep.

All too soon, it was time to head home. Here are a few of the first
fungal riders.

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301349-M.jpg

I don't really have any shots that do the Avenue of the Giants justice.
We'll just say these trees are older than your grandmother's mother, tall
and spectacular. My feeble attempt at demonstrating the scale.

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301510-M-1.jpg

After a wonderful ride North along the Avenue of the Giants, we reached
our exit and time to head South for home.

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301525-M-1.jpg

Here's where I parted company with Gail and Darryl. Gail, I hope your view was as spectacular.

http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/41301540-M.jpg

Finally, I want to thank Scott for organizing this. And to all of you in
attendance, it was great to put names to faces! Let's do this again :thumb

Thank you for the report and GREAT pictures!! I saw the redwoods for the first time this past summer and even stayed in Leggett. It's a special place and I hope to go back someday.

That would explain why Loraz was so quiet on the forums this weekend! :dance Nice pics thanks for taking the time to post them!

Man, As I sat there painting the house during perfect riding weather (long story as to why...) I thought about y'all the entire weekend.

Thank you for the pictures and the story. Glad you had a great time.

I just *love* those houses. Exquisite use of space and very energy efficient, too. Don't want to hijack an emerging thread, but thanks for the answer.

He should get a K-Bike. :D

I now know the 2 words an Airhead says before
he drops his bike.
Steve (ibuzzard) drops his RT and breaks the
windshield off on the steel railing on the side
of the road. That RT is heavy.

Wait I need to rephrase that: I had 1,600-miles of smiles, but at least 200 of them were on roads with a recommended speed of 35-mph or less. And no traffic. Arrrghhh :D

Alright, here are my pic’s (Fav's Posted) the rest for your enjoyment.
SFDOC Fungalride '05 (all of it) (http://SFDOC.smugmug.com/gallery/909710/1/41419716)

It was a blast to meet faces with names, much more personal than a rally. Gale thanks for the cheese and sausage :eat , it was good, glad you made the trip. Mr. /Mrs. Kbasa happy to have had the opportunity too meet and greet. Everybody else, it was good to shoot the breeze over some very fine cocktails.

The riding was just perfect, I didn't see one drop of rain the whole time (good thing I over prepared for it, kept it away for the weekend).

Threefly's thanks for the couch, very comfy by the way, if Mrs. Fly ever gives you the boot over your riding requirements.

Bob_M, hope you can get the 'stich fixed, missed the picture of you walking away with four-loops of duct-tape keeping your right leg on.

I think, not sure, but Loraz may have came the farthest from Ohio but I probably rode the farthest to do this. [BMW] Odo-1,655 {GPS-1,572} I think 1,572 is closer to actual.

The route down, Hwy 507, I-5, Hwy 6, Hwy's 101/401/4, Back on Hwy 101 South, Hwy 1 (Leggett to Hales Grove and back), Avenue of the Giants (101) Hwy 101 North to Hwy 36 East to Hwy 3 North, I-5 (Yreka to Portland), Hwy 14 East to Carson, WA, Wind River Rd North to National Forest Road NF-25 to Hwy 12, (Randle) West to Morton, and finally Hwy 7 back home.

It's a Monday, I saw a grand total of five cars and one M/C between Carson and Randle 80+ miles of 15-35-mph-twisties and switchbacks, high-speed-sweepers, and short straights from just above sea-level to over 4500 feet and back down, YEA HA, Oh, and I only had to pass one of those cars, the others were going the other way.

Knary, wish you could have been with me, it was all the FUN in Fungal.

It's awesome to see the West Coasters hanging with the Midwest Clan. These forums are great for this kind of stuff to occur. Who'd of thought that a few years ago we were all complete strangers to each other.

Hey Andy, maybe next year you can make it.

The cooler actually worked out very well, it's waterproof, crashproof, and it's about the perfect size to fit the back of a GS {Width and Length} (Mine has a short BestRest Cargoshelf, that helped with two of the straps, but not needed) Everything you see was relatively light, the WP (yellow) bag had a down sleeping bag and some warmies, (maybe 10lb), the cooler had my laptop, some food, and a Pendelton Fedora (Brown Hat) (Maybe 10lb). All the heavy stuff like a that liter of Scotch and camping fuel, stove, lantern, shovel and bike rescue stuff was low in the jesse bags.

So to answer the question, it made a very nice back rest, other than that I didn't know it was back there. Riding everything was at or below shoulder level so it didn't even catch the wind.

Ice was purchased locally and disposed in the AM, so I only carried it with 15lbs of ice for about 2-miles.

It twere a very nice color-matched top box.

Russ thanks...that sounds great...I like the backrest idea. I was riding my buddy's Valkyrie the other day after servicing it and the backrest makes a difference on the ride for sure. It took a 120 miles just to check out that I changed the oil and filters right for him...lol.

It sounds good for next year too...the Karoos go on this week for the winter fun to commence on mine... :D :D :D

So.... When's the next one? :dunno Anyone like November?Wellll... There's the Deming Gathering and BBQ (http://www.deminggathering.com/) over Veterans Day weekend, in Deming, NM. I'm going, I've volunteered to keep an eye on the smoker during the graveyard shift. I'll probably leave on Wednesday, and get back on Tuesday. Here's what it was like in 2003 (http://darryl.crafty-fox.com/motorcycles/2003Deming.htm).
