I recently completed the Basic Riding Course. When we were sitting and talking about "things" as the class was ending, I was hearing that a number of the others who had taken the class were receiving perks from their clubs. On this conversation, both of the instructors stated that BMWMOA did have a perk for completing the course.
I have been trying to find out 1) exactly what the perk is and 2) how I can receive it. If you know the answer to either of these I would appreciate a message.
If you can direct me to a person who may have the information, I would appreciate that as well.
Thanks.

HOG (harley owners group), and the honda club give money or merchandise to members who complete a brc class. also most of the dealers, including BMW give merchandise or repay the cost of the course upon completion. this is above and beyond the patches or stickers given by the msf.
Yes it is a big deal, mr oilhed. such an additude. :brow:rolleyes

OK, just provoking some thought. The most important perk of a MSF course is the content. I understand dealers or manufacturers giving up some cash but a club I just don't understand.

Yes, I had heard that BMW did reimburse for the cost of the course. This IS an added perk. I was not expecting this, but since it is something offered, I thought I would partake.
So, the next question is who do I need to contact to get the reimbursement?
Thanks.

You get a form from your dealer to fillout. After you take the course you send it to BMW NA. Then they cut you a check I think.

I think you can look at it a different way. Most clubs, as part of their charter, have something about "promoting safe riding" as part of their mission. I'd say an ERC course certainly accomplishes that.
You should also recognize that both HOG and HRC are sponsored by Harley and Honda, which gives them some level of funding not available to local clubs.

If you tell the insurance co. (Progressive) that you are a member of MOA they cut 10% off your premium. Same goes if you take a erc or brc course. That doesn't mean they take off 30% if you do all. 10% is it.
BMWNA will reimburse you "I think up to $300" for the class only if you just purchased a new bike. They'll pay for certified private lessons to.

Oh, I know it. The best thing about the MOA (and the RA) is that nobody is on the payroll of BMWNA. So we can invite any manufacturer to our rallies and advertise non factory accessories.

At the Rheinbeck event, they had both Triumph and Moto Guzzi in attendance with BMWNA. I thought it was awesome.

It would be cool to have other manufacturers at national. I was at Midland where the Guzzi truck was there. However, at Charleston when the topic was brought up by a member of the "Meet the Director" seminar with Ray Zimmerman, he basically went in a round about manner to say that it wasn't going to happen again because the 'MOA didn't want to piss of BMWNA. Kind of a sad situation if you ask me. God forbid we piss of the all omnipotent BMWNA.

Bummer! I thought that was the benefit of a member run club. Perhaps the Motorad would like to pay to be the exlusive manufacturer or perhaps pick-up half the MOA's annual budget.
