Ok I'm heading to CO tomorrow (evening) to look at some property in Southern CO.
I don't have to be in Southern CO (San Luis) til Thur afternoon.
Does anyone have ideas where to fill in the extra time, any special roads, special spots?
Thanks

Anything with a "pass" attached to the name. (Be forwarned, it can be SNOWING in them this time of year. Heck, it can be snowing in them in July!)Wolf Creek Pass (http://worldbuddy.com/buddy.cgi/KCPW) North of Pagosa Springs is one of my favorites.
btw, This whole area is heaven on earth, riding wise.

I remember San Luis from several years ago when climbing in the area. I think it is Colorado's oldest town. Anyway, I digress. Wolf Creek Pass to the west on Hwy 160 is worthy.
For one not widely known, but for those who do it is sweet, would be Cumbres Pass and La Manga Pass to the west of San Luis. Find 142 west out of San Luis to 285. Head south briefly to Antonito. Go west on 17. Outstanding. On the other side of the Culebra Range, east of San Luis, is the Highway of Legends going over Cuchara Pass south out of La Veta off of 160 (Hwy 12). This could be an option if you are heading east after seeing San Luis.

Be forwarned, it can be SNOWING in them this time of year. Trail Ridge Road is closed for the winter. Some places in the high country had around two feet of snow Sunday and yesterday (Monday). Then again... it is supposed to hit 70F on Thursday.
One thing about Colorado is... bring ALL your gear for hot and cold weather, any time of year.

Depends on when the "spring thaw" happens. I've ridden plenty in shirtsleeves in late Jan-early Feb in Denver.

I would feel pretty safe leaving my mesh gear home in february.I often see folks coming to work in shorts, sandals and a t-shirt in Frebruary. I have awakened to snow in the driveway and had the high for the day be in the 70's. Ya just never know in Colorado. I've been in a whiteout blizzard atop a pass on the 4th of July with temperatures in the 70's in the towns in the low country on both sides of the pass.

Colorado is pretty darn good any way you slice it. Nothing wrong with 550 from Durango to Ridgway. aka Million Dollar Hwy
Aspen is pretty great though can't say if Independence pass heading to Buena Vista is still open. Aspen to Paonia is about an hour and a half using 133 from Carbondale. Pogosa Springs to Taos is a few hours and good roads with lots of sweepers.
