I have been reading about 1200GS sadlebags and the top case. Some jurnalists are saying its easy that they fly a way from the bike .Now beside keep adjusting them does anyone know a fastner or the way to keep them secure?

I cannot comment on the top case, as I have virtually no info on that, but the key to keeping the side cases attached is proper adjustment of the mushroom shaped bolts that the large red latch grabs onto. Mine were set up properly by the dealer and have given me no problems in 27,000 miles of riding.

Mine have been fine, but I've only got like 17K on my bike.
Emoto's right. Proper adjustment of the mushroom bolts is the key.

How much pressure do you guys have to use to latch that red latch? Mine took quite a bit of force at first but I've adjusted mine looser so that it is easy to latch them now. Too loose? They feel secure by trying to pull up and down on them so I'm assuming that's tight enough.

I have them half way they are not too hard to put them on and needs a bit of force. now i just start using a Givi top case and keep the panieres and top case at home . for a long trip i would use the sides . check out www.ukgser.com/forum . there are some people who lost them and some never had any problem there were some also had crack on the botom of the top case.

I've not ridden too much with the side cases attached, although one of the times I did they stayed securely attached at 110 mph! Now, the topcase, that's a different story. I'm now on my third one (under warranty, thankfully!). Here's my original post about my 1st topcase: http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6716. My dealer replaced both the case and the mounting bracket, and I moved the mount to the passenger seat as my wife doesn't accompany me on this bike, figuring it would bring the case closer to the CG and not be subject to as much vibration as the first one was hanging out way in the back. I deliberately rode over some relatively rough roads, and it did stay in place. However, I did notice it loosening up - one day, I tried moving it about and noticed it was definitely looser than when it was first installed. I removed it, and discovered a crack in the plastic around the rear "loop" mount of the case. My brother-in-law was over at the time and checked his and he had a crack also. The dealer replaced that case with another, and the service manager told me I was the only customer who had showed up with this problem. However, I have read about it in ADVrider. One solution I have heard of is to actually drill through the bottom of the case into the mounting bracket and secure it with a carriage bolt/nut. I may try this, as being on my third case I am a bit gun-shy. I told the service manager that if this case does not hold up, I would like to have a credit towards a Jesse topcase, they seem more sturdily built, and he agreed to do that. Time will tell.
