My K1100LT (97) with 33,000 miles has a drop of Anti-Freeze from the waterpump relief port that is cast integral with the forward lip of the engine oil pan. MaxBMW's micro-fiche shows the two seals (items 7 and 8) as N.A. Item #28 which fits between the water side and the oil pump side is also listed N.A. Does anyone know of substitutes or a way to cross reference these? The cross-section of even the simple "O" rings in this area makes substitution difficult. What options do I have here? I am presuming what Max shows is what BMW has or can get for you. I checked the same area for a K1200LT and it too, shows N.A. for these same seals!? Before I remove the pump I sure would like the proper seals! Also, if anyone has had this problem (checked "search" ) do you remember which of these seals went bad or was it all of them? Thanks in advance. :D

Carl, check with your dealer. I think BMW has superceded the original seals. I had to replace them on my 85 K100 last spring and that was what I found out.

You may want to check out this site. There are a couple of articles on changing these seals.

Those seals have been upgraded at least three times. Your dealer can punch the numbers into the BMW ordering process and it will point to the new latest seals. Or they may have them in stock. My dealer does. Your LT has the upgraded pump shaft, so the new seal and a spacer probably (and the oring behind the pump) are all you need. There is a tool for setting the new seal into the pump also. You could just buy a new pump for around $400, but the seals only cost around $25 or so if you can manage it.

Jack & Roy,
Excellent info thanks to you two! I can see the micro-fiche is more historical and the "new" updated numbers are known. This is the only hic-cup in my K1100LT for me todate! A wonderful motorcycle plus it simply looks like a motorcycle should look!

My K75 was seeping. When I pulled the water pump I found the O ring between the pump and block was old. I cleaned the O ring groove and put on a new O ring and I haven't goten a drop from the seepage port since.

Thanks Bob,
Good info. Good to hear from a "Triple" Beemer rider. I too owned and enjoyed that wonderful 3 cylinder motorcycle. I am watching and it is only one tiny drop (?) after shut-down. A q-tip shows nothing more so at this rate no visible loss.
