Greetings,
I'm anticipating that the exhaust on my 1991 K100RS (20K) will soon crack. I was prepared to order a Staintune but find they no longer offer their system for it. I've always liked Staintune for their fit, quietness, and looks. Does anyone know of any other good options? The only thing I've found is Remus which shows header-muffler combinations. Anyone here have a Remus?
Thanks,
Rick

If your cracks are not too bad they can be welded for a fee that beats both Staintune, and Remus.
After the second weld job on my RS, I got one of the last Staintune pipes.
All that you heard about them is true! Expensive but so lovely.
The Remus pipes are a good alternative, a friend who also has a 91 KRS went that route. They cost less but look and sound good.
Just in case, I got my Staintune pipe through the Pirates Lair, they can be found in the MOA News, but as of last December there were only 4 pipes left.
Good luck!

As long as you keep everything nice and tight it should not crack. The cracks are cause by vibration. I recently expierenced cracks (looking at the engine left to right cylinder #4) I had it welded and just reinstalled it this past weekend. The guy did a real good job and even re-enforced it in several areas to prevent it from cracking again (will see). But what I did notice was that every header nut was loose (all 8). The guys at the shop told me to ride for about 600-1000 miles and retorq the nuts. I will do this and then check every oil change for now on... :bolt

Tightening up the ex header nuts
IS a part of regular service / maintainance.
Seems they DO like to come loose,
so it's a good idea to keep an eye on them.

Had one come loose on a trip (was in Wyoming)...
The resulting vibration broke the stud off flush at the head.
It was not a good day!
I also check them at every oil change now... with a torque wrench.

Thanks for the tips! I have *not* checked my header nuts but will tomorrow morning and very frequently from now on. Nice to know that Remus is an option if necessary.

I put a remus "street" exhaust on my '91 16valver several years ago after tiring of getting the stocker rewelded. Deeper sounding than stock but not too bad, I was never really sure until I heard another one go past me in town last year. FWIW I saw a pretty good bump in MPG after the switch, running 45-50 now.
