Hello all,
I am wondering what the cost for installing heated handgrips onto a 1994 R1100RS would run. I am hoping to get OEM stuff for this, has anyone had any experience with this? Its starting to get a little chilly in Brewtown and heated grips would eliminate the one weakness remaning for late season riding. Any suggestions/opinions welcome. Also, if someone knows if there is a kit from BMW, its part # would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Edit: I think I may have answered my question, @ bobsbmw.com I found part #: 61 31 2 316 174 ($181.95) in the catalog - http://www.bobsbmw.com/catalog/2005_catalog/Oil-Head%20Parts(e).pdf
page 4 on the right side, is this all I need? How hard is this to install?

There are aftermarket grip heaters. Try webbikeworld.com there should be a link on this site somewhere..
Good luck! :D

I got the heated hand grip option on my 05 1200GS and they are great out here. One tip - Do NOT try to ride without gloves and the heat setting on high. Ouchy...ouchy.

whichever heated grips you use, be they BMW or aftermarket, they will be a fantastic addition to your cold riding arsenel. I am thinking of complimenting mine with some GS style plastic guards to keep the wind of my frozen digits! Welsome to the forum - if you are riding in the c-c-c-cold you might consider becoming a Rounder.......Brad will be launching the new website in a Beta version within the next few days....stay tuned for details.

Huh... thats weird, Maxbmw's site shows the kit to be not available. It is showing to be available at bobs though. Has anyone installed this kit on an R1100RS? The kit has the grips, wires and switch, just wondering if this is a quick operation or if I'll be spending some time on this when I get the kit.

Thanks again.

I would imagine it is plug and play if you know how BMW intended it to be installed. Do you have a manual (Haynes or otherwise) to go from?
Anybody out there have a RS schematic/manual page they could send to Camshaft?

You can get inserts to add under your stock grips from Aerostitch for about $30 for the set, with a switch and wiring. I used them on my 94RS and they worked great! I did wire them to the OEM heated grip switch though.

Don't waste your money on the BMW grips for the R1100RS....their peak temp is much lower (130F vs. 160F IIRC) than other BMW heated grip models for some reason, or at least they were when we had our RS's. Get the universal kit from Dual-Star, which gets rave reviews, and use the BMW switch mounted in the factory fairing location.
