To be launched at the Paris Motorcycle show in a couple of days...
Just another photoshop dream? What do you think?
It's funny how BMW is now using Touratech bags.

This could very well be the next Adventurer model of the successful BMW R1200GS motorcycle. BMW always produce an Adventurer model of their dual-purpose motorcycle, and the R1200GS will not be exempt. The Adventurer model is usually heavier than it's sister, but is meant for long distance adventure riding.
The expected R1200GSA has as basis not the normal R1200GS, but the R1200GS-HP2, BMW's super enduro motorcycle. The expected weight is 300 kg and over 100 horses.
To loose weight, BMW have gotten rid of the telelever. This motorcycle, we hope, will be launched in the Paris Motorcycle Show at the end of this week.

I dunno; I'm not putting any $ on the idea of an HP2-based Adventure, other than perhaps the aping of a few cosmetic styling cues. I believe the Adventure version will be based on the existing R1200GS with the usual accessories and maybe one or two technical flourishes not available on the standard GS.

Hmmmmm, I dunno about this one. The photo just doesn't look right to me. Comparing to magazine photos, I see that the trim panels on the tank look different, but not enough so to accomodate much more fuel- and the HP2 only carries 3.4 gallons. Still, an HPS-based GSA would certainly be lots of fun! It's possible that the pic is a fake, but only for the purpose of having something to show with the story and that a real bike may in fact be in the works. Or all of our ideas may be incorrect. Only time will tell.

A new Adventure is coming, but it isn't based on the HP2, but the regular R1200GS. That photo screams photoshop from the wonky looking bag locks to the weird scrunching of the headlights to the funky shadows on the sides of the tank to the poor shading of the windscreen.

I agree with Knary that it will probally be based on the 1200GS and not the HP2.
I am eager to see what they are going to offer, I compared the 1200GS to the 05' 1150 Adventure this spring when I purchased my 1200.
The price was almmost the same between the two so my decision came down to a comparison of the bikes. While the Adventure offered a lower first gear I felt that was more than offset by a larger clutch plate, lighter weight, more horsepower and torque that the 1200 offered.
The one piece seat vs. the two piece seat was not a big deal either. I prefer the two piece because I can remove the rear and strap gear there instead and also remove the front without having to unload the bike.
I also noted that the Adventure frame required some reinforcement near the swingarm. The 1200GS frame fixed this weakness.
The alternator capacity is the same between the bikes. The 1150 Adventure has a larger alternator than the 1150GS so this was an improvement over the base 1150 model but once again they fixed this with the larger alternator on the 1200.
Increased fuel capacity will be a godsend, but creating that tank may be a real challenge since no is offering an aftermarket tank, yet.
The upgrades I would like to see would be increased fuel capacity, better shocks, (more travel) and some increased lighting. With the exception of the fuel tank, the rest is an easy upgrade from stock with afternarket parts.

The new Adventure is due here next spring according to informed sources.
Yeah, this isn't even a very good photochop job... there's almost banding in the shading on the tank. It looks like the artist grafted the lower forks from the R12GS onto the triple tree of the HP2. And the bags are sticking so far out the back that the bike would go nose-up when they're loaded.
However, this concept rendering is along the lines of what I would really *like* in an R12GS Adventure:
- lower first gear (although the pic doesn't show that!)
- bigger tank
- luggage
- 21" front wheel with dual disks (unless weight doesn't require it...)
- Serious suspension travel
but I'd like a conventional upside/down front fork on mine and signficantly more room aftward for camping gear and the occasional ride with SWMBO.
Fun to think about, but I am equally interested to see what might be coming in the way of a parallel twin F-bike. I have always lusted after a Yamaha Super Tenere.

Amen to the lower first gear Ian! I can't understand why they've got first so tall on an adventure bike.
The present first ratio is ok for street racing. And the "professional riders" like Jimmy Lewis never go slow so it's OK for that crowd too. But then there's everyone else.
Plodding along, maybe 2-up with luggage, up an interesting but rutted road may be what the GS can do but not with the present gearing. Heck, just starting out on a *steep grade* two-up, burns the clutch. $$
I don't think we'll see it but my hope is for a R1200GSAdventurer WR, wide ratio. Low 1st, 2nd-5th for the twisties and an over drive 6th (the same or a little shorter than the R1150GS) for the open road. It'd be OK to add a little flywheel weight too.
Leaving for Shelbyville Monday, yeah!
