View Full Version : An odd day for motorcycles

Two strange things happened today.

First, I was tooling down the freeway in my company truck when up ahead I saw a motorcycle parked on the left shoulder and a man walking up the shoulder toward oncoming traffic. As I quickly braked to pull over and see if he needed help, I noticed that it was an R1100GS.
I caught up with the man and asked if he needed help, explaining that I was a fellow BMW rider. He said he didn't. He was out looking for a footpeg that fell off his Harley the previous day, and luckily he found it just before I caught up. We talked bikes for a bit and I noticed that he had an auxillary fuel tank and a Russel seat. Turns out he ran the IBR four years ago. I didn't get his name but I enjoyed the conversation.
Then later in the day, I actually saw a Buell being ridden!

That's a cool idea, a Harley "parts patrol" made up of GS riders - they could make enough money on EBAY selling all the expensive crap that falls off those Road Pigs.

I saw a Buell being ridden last Sunday - right past me on the track when I had to slow for some pogue on a 600cc Kawasaki who lost his line in a decreaser...

one could assume that a GS rider that also owns a Harley is into that S&M stuff...to constantly live with the before and after experience of motorcycle evolution eh?...lol

And a Harley rider looking for a footpeg is somehow different than a BMW rider looking for a topcase that came off? ... Of course, because the top case it bigger and easier to find!

You know Dan that is a really, really, really really good point that you made...I apparently moved back into my glass house to throw rocks again....lol. That certainly sharpend the perspective for me as I have left my topcase behind the GS...hehehe...good job I never claimed to be smart in public eh?

Ya know, that's what those "stoplight magnets" are really for. The last guy in the parade has one and he picks up all the parts that fall off the proceeding rider's bikes.

Maybe I'm just more sensitive to the whole thing because I recently added an HD Sportster to the garage. It's way different from the CLC, but fun in its own way. Any nothing has fallen off yet! However, for any lengthy ride, or 2-up, I'll be on the CLC!

You know Dan what the funniest part about you saying that?...my good friend has a dresser HD and every single time we go for a ride he has to either pick something up that fell off his or his wifes bike, or tighten something that is shaking loose. The funniest ever was the footboard coming off though. Anyway since I made the mistake of telling him about the topcase incident he has some ammunition to throw back,,,hehehehe.

A-HA! Sounds like a great way to finance that GS I've been wanting! Thanks for the tip! :D

Maybe funnier even than that is this thought: many of these Harley guys are back yard mechanics. So what fell off is probably something they put on! I haven't really added much to my Sportster yet, so I can ride with my head up.
