Trigger goes to track day and gets all taped up and his ears clipped off. Me and the guy on the GS were the only ones foolish enough to take these kinds of bikes out there. Won't be doing that again. Too expensive to low side, so now we have the Suzuki aka Sonny to practice with. Look carefully and you can see the track out there. This is the Motorsport Ranch, in Cressen, TX. 1.7 miles of pure fun.

BMW didn't at least offer an S fairing option on the R1100R

PS Took me a while to get the pic to attach. It seems that you do not get the 'file too big' error when the file you're trying to attach is way too big (~1 Mb in my case). You get a 'page not found' error instead. Did more people run into this? If so, maybe nice for the forum admins to know...

It's a 1999.
I've seen these bikes with a few different options like chrome heads and spoked wheels. I wasn't sure if the mags were put on after or if they came like that. I know the previous owners had a few bmw's so it's very possible that they replaced the wheels themselves.

You might want to have a look at the newer mini satellite antennae - it would mount up a little cleaner on that GIVI than that old dinosaur you have on it now. More aerodynamic too. (Sorry to sound so critical; just trying to help a bro).

I'm a k-bike owner but when I was making my decision, I personally was leaning very strongly towards the 1200RT. Only after the other half really hammered me with her input did I mosey over to the LT and ultimately choose it for its all around comfort and cruising abilities.
But, after seeing all these pics of the Rs, I’m dyin.....maybe I need an RT in the garage too--or better yet, in the dining room, you know--for those days when the lady of the house is out and about on her own......

They do look neat, the spokes. And the CHP insisted on them for their police bikes I heard. They are supposed to be more flexible for rough stuff. But in thinking back, I couldn't wait to get rid of them on the airhead. I broke a spoke about every once a year or so. Didn't go so far as to buy Lesters, but got the first BMW cast wheel bike out...and bent the rim once...so...but I still like the cast wheels.
PacWestGS
03-20-2006, 06:22 PM
I don't wanna hijack the 'picture thread', but spoked wheels are much better off-road, they bend and flex without breaking, and you can limp home a bent wheel. Just cut the broken spokes off or zip-tie 'em to another one.
JVB, even fire-roads can cause stress fractures, keep an eye on them, but I'm sure you and all the others' will have many years of trouble free service from the cast alloy wheels.

So can the pot holes around the DC area! :D
However, according to the BMW literature, and the fact that I have yet to damage a wheel, the new 12GS cast wheels are significantly stronger than previous BMW cast wheels.

Get one of the Mayer brothers or Sargent to do a custom seat for you. It's about the same price as an off the shelf seat.

Using the AirHawk on my Sargent seat is the most comfortable seating that I have found. The Sargent Seat profile was comfortable but, it was just to hard for my boney A$$. I suffer from "Noassatall". Thanks dad. :D

We had a room reserved for the RUT but our youngest grandaughter decided to have her 2nd birthday party on that weekend...I was outvoted.
We'll be in VT. Looking forward to it and seeing your new bike.
We went to the MiniRally. Nice ride thru IN on the way back. Took 8 hours to go 250 miles on two lanes, no towns.
Presently trying to figure out how to camp on an S (two) again. I think I get the tent and Viki gets the sleeping bag...and the pads...I probably get the pads...and the ground plastic thing.

When originally loading it worked fine, checking back it wasn't there, now it is... I think someone is playing games with me. Oh well gotta get back to making signs.

This was on a trip with my brother on his Wing. We met in Medford, Oregon and headed east through eastern Oregon and then down through Nevada. Went to Virginia City and then out 50 to Ely and then down south and east into Cedar City, Utah. Then spent a few days in canyon country and back to
Cedar City through the mountains where this was taken. Finally headed back to Stockton, CA (home) via the Alien Highway and the Sierra's. Great trip!
