Yes, friends of ours started the whole thing. We like to go to Dover the day before and camp out, so we don't fry our clutches in the gridlock on the actual 13th. Have a few favourite stories:

One year my friend was approached on Saturday the 14th by a guy on a rat Harley who wanted to know where Friday the 13th was. My friend explained that it was yesterday on Friday--the 13th. The rider then swore "Aw F---! That's the second year I've done this." There was a sticker on his bike to the effect that you can't soar with the eagles if you ride with turkeys.

Another year, Friday the 13th was on Good Friday. We took a very distinguished friend, an always elegant headmistress of a private school, to see the show. As we stood on the sidewalk watching the bikes ride by, one rider went past weaing bunny ears on his helmet, a thong with a bunny tail and his boots. Nothing else. As we all stood speechless, the headmistress announced, "Oh I know him." So much for stereotypes about schoolmarms.
