I went out to start her up and presto!!! Nothing!!! Has anyone come across a dead battery or bad alternator on the new 1200RT???
No, But on my 12GS, If I touch the left turnsignal button within 5-6 seconds after turning the key off, The parking lights come on :banghead . Bike build date 11-04! The new ones on the demo fleet don't do it! I kept coming to the bike from a food or gas stop to find the parking lights on :banghead . Nothing in the owners manual about the parking lights :dunno

My battery on my 02RT after five months. Fiexed under warranty. The date code on the battery was 1999. Seems to be BMW did not do FIFO (First In First Out)

As long as the battery wasn't filled and was stored properly i.e. no moisture until activated, shouldn't it have performed normally even after three years? Is there a shelf life for unfilled batteries?

A trip to the dealer was in store and they put her on a computer and found that my front brake had been in use for 59 minutes and my rear brake had been in use for just over 6 hours!!! Well, they said I must have been brushing the rear brake without realizing it. I took it as that and now at 2575 miles I stopped for fuel on my way home from work at 0630am and she died at the pump. I had to call the BMW motor club and get a free jump. It started right up but when I got it home it wouldn't restart. Has anyone else experienced problems with the charging system? I know for sure that it is not my rear brake again. I have made it a point to stay clear of it. I guess it is off to the dealer in the morning since they are closed sun/mon. I will post another update when they give me another diagnosis. :banghead

It sounds like it could be possible that your rear brake switch is sometimes staying on even though your foot is not on the peddle. You might have someone follow you to see if your brake light is constantly going on and off.

do you have an autocomm? Mine killed my battery. You need to get the little gizmo Autocomm sells that works like a relay and keeps the battery from getting drained while the bike is off.
If you run the Autocomm on a 9V battery, it shuts off when no headsets are attached. If you run it on 12V from a bike battery, that's not the case.

If the police learn to download such detailed information off our bike computers, we're dead meat.

No auto comm on my bike. I don't even have a radio. I guess I will have to wait to see what they come up with off the computer. I will post an update as soon as I find out. Thanks for the replies.

Along with total engine on time, fluid level and front/rear ABS activation time. All right here :deal

Yep, and there have been some legal discussions about who owns the data in a vehicle's computer memory for various purposes such as liability in accidents.

This is a very big topic in the accident investigation world. Your ABS module retains the wheel speed for a few seconds before a crash. Easy to compute vehicle speed from that. A search warrant for that info could prove you guilty.

I went to the dealer and watched the technician put the bike on the computer and he came up with nothing. He said he couldn't find anything wrong and so he installed a brand new battery. It seems okay so far but if I have anymore problems at least I will know that the battery wasn't the cause.
When I asked for a loaner the saleswoman; tried to give me ANOTHER crap bike and refused to lend out one of many 1150RTs. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Thanks for all of the replies to date.
