ABS Sensor - Adjusting

Good afternoon folks...I have a question. I noticed when I changed my tyres out this past time that after checking clearance between the ABS sensor and the ring it is much wider than the widest feeler gauge for checking the ABS...I looked in the manual and there really is no specific remedy. Has anybody addressed this themselves please? The brakes seem to work fine right now. The rear wheel has the shim between the wheel and paralever hub that would probably take the gap up...but the front has no shim that I am aware of.

Thanks,
Andy

Andy - sounds odd to me! (But then I've been told I'm an odd guy). I would not expect removing and reinstalling the wheels to alter the sensor gap - if done correctly. (I won't be rude or try to imply anything by asking who did the work :brow ) Sounds like the left fork may be splayed out a bit, increasing the distance from the sensor to the ring.

You might try losening the pinch bolts at the bottom of each fork leg, which grip the axle, and then re-torque the bolt on the left end of the axle. This should pull the left leg (& the sensor) toward the ring, if it is indeed splayed out a bit. Remember when you are done to torque the pinch bolts back to spec. While you're down there make sure the speedo drive is properly seated against the left fork and against the wheel itself. It is possible, if you get the engagement tabs just wrong, to have the speedo drive not fully seat against the bearing seal. Either of these problems would force the left leg and sensor away from the ring.

Finally, the sensor gap is adjusted by removing or adding shims which sit between the sensor and the fork. If you pull the sensor you'll see them - very thin little rings.

Repost after you sort it out, I'm curious to hear what you find.

Steve

Alien...thanks for your reply, I was not ignoring this I was riding home the last few days...another post of course...hehehe. I would not take it as rude by the way, and your suspicions are no doubt correct that it was me that has done the wrenching for the most part except for the last rear tyre and that was a dealer on the way out west replacing a blown rear....lol.

I will be checking your suggestions out now that the baby is home now, and I will definitely re-torque and above all check the shimming on the sensors, I have not removed these before as the manual was not clear about the adjustments. I will re-post the results for you in a few days after I do some digging around.

Thanks again,
Andy
