View Full Version : MOA Milage Contest
Any thoughts as to extending the start and ending dates;ie., Start: Bike Week in March; End:Biketoberfest in Oct..? I myself, as may others, loose alot of countable milage attending these events.
Just my 2 cents.. :brad

I think it was surveyed last year. Three choices - all year, couple months longer or as is. I believe in the 3-way split as is won. If they did couple months longer vs. as is I believe the change would have won. I can't imagine all the all year votes going to as is. The current time frame helps to keep the northern folks in it. But, a lot of southern folks don't ride in July, Aug so they are punished. Oh, well.

The current format is biased in favor of teachers. They have time off during most of the contest, and those of us who are regular working stiffs, dont have a chance to win the contest.

You're right, Mark. It was surveyed, and can be surveyed again in the future. Things change....
It's been as is since the beginning of BMW MOA. The original intent was April to October was the "rally" season. Southern riders have heat issues in the Summer and northern riders had traction issues in earlier and later months. It's tough to please all, and so the "rounders" were born :nod

I agree. I thought it was just done
May I propose next time ask two questions:
1) Stay as is or expand the riding season?
2) If expanded Mar - Nov or 12 months?

Leave it as is.... arnt broke dont fix... look how much the Wisc. ride every year with being so far north a number of top riders from the higher altitude states as Colorado... if you extend it it only aids the southern riders and pennalizes the northern or more nasty winter locked in riders.
i ride year round in the mountains of Colorado, but that is mayber only 2000 miles total from Nov to March due to the snow and ice in the shadows.
