I know this has been asked before. I have a 2004RT the book says with a rider 38 rear and 34 front. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Phil
P.S I ride two up frequently.

Phil there are a few variables - what kind of tires do you have.

In general, I would consider the MINIMUM for any two up riding on the 04RT to be 38 front/40 rear. I run 40 front/42 rear when running the RT 2up with Metzeler Z-6's.

ran 42/40 on z-4's and got 10k miles out of them..with a bit more to spare, but decided to stay on the safe side and replaced.

I am a member of the 40/42 club on my RRS. It handles better, and mileage is better on the tires.

I run 40/42 and am real happy with the tread life. 12K and counting.

Guess I'll chime in...
I have run what the manual says for about 6,000 mi. after reading the threads, I changed to 40/42 and took honey for a ride.
Well, at least in my head I think the ride was better!
40/42 for me.

My dealer told me to run the tyres at tyre wall pressure recommendations to prevent scrubbing/cupping and I doubted him originally feeling that the owner book should know more of what was best. What a mistake that was! I ran my GS at book recommendations and the result was severely cupped tyres at 4K miles and a rear tyre blow out at 80mph with tread seperation on Dunlops.

Since then I have inflated at tyre wall pressures and I have about 3800K on the same Dunlop model tyres with no scrub/cupping and much better handling without the feel of wobble or vibration. :bikes

I put ME880's on my RT 6m ago and went with the recommendation of 42 front and 46 rear from my dealer. Just checked tread depth and still have 3/16" left and no cupping on rear. I had a lot of cupping problems with 880's on an LT but I ran them at the Owners manual recommended pressure or a little above.

46 seems a bit high. But, when I had my new Avons installed they were over inflated for the first few hundred miles. The bike handled GREAT! I go with 40 front.42 rear all the time now.

Ran original Bridgestones at owners manual reccommendation and replaced at 4K. Lousy tire anyway. Joined the 40 f and 42 r club with my Michelins and the ride, handeling and wear is greatly improved in my case. Run a lot of 2 - up and we're both NOT lightweights. :laugh

maybe the dealer looked at me and decided I needed the extra air.

40-42 seems quite reasonable though.

I just received my '04RT from it's 12k service and my dealer just put me down to 36 fr 40 r. I was a bit surprised as I had been at 40 fr 42 r. Asked them about the change and was told that they prefer the factory specs. But I do notice that they set they base at the factory's 2 up setting. Well anyway, I set it back up to my higher setting.

P. Monk - This is Dave from Austin. I lost your e-mail address. See you und ihr frau im Fredricksburg, nexte monat? Me and mine will be there and camping this time.
