Some R1200C owners have had failures, the tech section of the chromeheads.org forum has a topic with three good references, I don't know if they're all still good links:

good directions but it turns out not for my bike.forgot to mention year / model.it's a 98 r 1100 rt and has different hall sensor. i guess they like to call it a ignition trigger (same thing to me as a hall sensor)
What helped by reading about the inital symtoms of the tach doing goofy things makes me now look in a different direction.I didn't have any of these problems.Just a spark missing every so often on either side.
Don't want to go to the dealer with it they will sell me half of their electronics dept.
Whats the resistance suposed to be in the sparkplug wires ?

Karlheinz,
You'll find a whole lot of data on diagnois and repair here:

WOW !!!!! Thats a fantastic site with all the pictures and how to.Just what i was looking for.
I knew i was looking for help in the right place. Thanks to all of You!
I did the static LED test as written by Paul Graves in the April ON mag. and things checked ok but still have to take the unit out of the bike to do a heat bench test and probably cut into the wire harness just to make sure no heat
damage was done to the wire insulation.Did find a low resistance reading on the coil checking 4a to 4b of only 7500 ohms.Thats way to low should be 13000 ohms if i am not mistaken. That is probably the cause to my problems giving a very weak spark. The bike is a x- chips unit and has this goofy shielded coil pack (copper sheetmetal casing) which also incorporates a spark arester as used in the old point ignition systems for RF supression.I just wonder if i buy a new coil how the existing spark plug wires will mount to it.
Right now the wires have a threaded nut on the coil end which holds them in place. One more question i have.Has anybody ever taken a resistance reading on a good set of spark plug wires ? What is it?Nobody seems to know including my bmw dealers service dept. They told me their diagnostic computer tells them when wires are bad.
Sorry for having been so lenghty.
A happy MOA member

I just checked two of the three links that I pointed you to (the first didn't load) and they both cover 2valve and 4valve up to 11xx engines; how is yours different?
