Hi all, is there any way to tighten the three mirror mounts on an 85 K100 RT. Both of the mirrors are loose.

I have looked through my service manuals and also checked the IBMWR/ktech pages and have not found any info on this.

Thanks

The stock setup ages & the clips don't hold original tolerances. 2 answers pop up: if the "looseness" is the entire mirror to the fairing; try to add spacing from the the fairing to the mirror base. If this doesn't help; you need to add circular tension to the "capture clips"..... (not trivial) <<<)))

On my RT I removed the mirrors and cleaned up the posts and clips with brake cleaner and lightly lubed them with white grease. Re-assembled and they seem better.

Thanks guys for the input. I guess I will have to see if I can remove these mirrors and get them to grip better.

Full disclosure - I have made the loose mirror problems worse on my K100RS because I remove them every time I store the bike in my tight garage. Nonetheless, they do tend to fall off (caught by wire tethers) when I ride over bumpy surfaces - of which we have many in Illinois.

The clips - made from high carbon steel - seem to have 'relaxed' and not grip the pins as well.

Anyone else ever experience this?

Here's what I'm going to try - twist the fixed pins slightly to move the worn spots over creating a 'new' surface for the pins to grasp. Find the right 'o' rings and place on each clip, creating the earlier referenced circular tension.

Any thoughts?:scratch
