Now that I have a working RS I couldn't be more pleased with the machine, but what;s the deal with the mirrors? My manly shoulders are wonderful things, but they are not what I want to look at when I am in traffic. Do the RT mirrors extend wider? Is there an other option?
Thanx ;)

The first rule of Italian racing...rip off the rear view mirror. :p
Seriously, you can't see too much except your shoulders and/or your elbows. A couple of years ago, I read somewhere on the 'Net where people were replacing the stock mirrors with mirrors from a Kawi 900 Ninja. I can't remember the exact year of the Kawi's, but there were a couple year models that worked well for the RS.
I apologize for not being able to provide a link, but the point I'm making is you may have to look around at other makes of bikes to get a good replacement. No, I haven't done this myself, I just live with the mirrors the way they are, and thankfully, I'm still limber enough to turn around and look over my shoulder when needed.

You'll soon find "head checks" are a good thing for checking if anything is within about a eighth of a mile behind your rear fender. :dunno

On my 84 RS, I used stock RS bases and some napolean mirrors. I took off the piece that mounts the mirrors to the handle bars and sourced a bolt that would go thru the napoleans and the RS base. They work well, but the Kawi mirriors do look better. You can call Turp Cobb at Cobb HD & BMW repair (440)244-6881 he has the Kawi mirrors on his RS and will know what will work.

RS and RT mirrors are the same part numbers.
There are "early" and "late" versions, the latter being larger and a bit convex. Haven't tried them on my RS, but find them VERY necessary on wife's RT.
Any RS/RT mirror is only about $25 from a dealer.
