View Full Version : Fuel Level Related Happiness

Does anyone find that their R1150, in my case Rockster, is happier with more fuel in the tank? Performance seems to become more abrupt/occasionally jerky as the fuel level drops. I will be mentioning this on Saturday when I bring the bike in for its first 10K servicing, but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.
Cheers

haha, i know this is dumb, cause its what 4.8gal x 6.6 pounds, so like 30 pounds of weight, but my bike also seems "happier" on a full tank, like its more grounded

For me, it is more like the engine is happier, or maybe it is the fuel pump. It's like there is not enough weight/pressure and feeding the injectors doesn't make the bike happy. I wouldn't say performance degrades, but everything about the engine's performance seems a little less settled.

you shouldnt anthropomorphize motorcycles, they don't like it.
my '02 r1150r is fuel-level agnostic. i took it out the other night and i had 174 miles on the trip odometer. (still no gas light, i got sweet mileage on this tank!) and it was running great. gassed it up, and it still ran great. it *felt* different to me due to the weight being different, it feels a little more solid with the tank full (duh!) but the bike's throttle response and all that seemed identical.

maybe your bike doesn't have a soul username (we all know about those R's) but mine certainly does and to that end it needs all the anthropomorphize-ation it can get, my bike is often happy, rarely sad, occasionally grumpy and one time it even felt aloof (sort floated 1/2" above the pavement in turns)
my last bike had bi-polar disorder

talk to the service people. on my 2nd rockster and have not experienced any performance difference according to the fuel level. maybe it depends on which boots you are wearing????????

i've spoken to your bike, and it insists that you are making all of this up.

i've got a couple of magnets with that.
;)
Placebo affect. Unless the fuel pick-up is becoming uncovered and sucking air there should be no difference between full and part part full.
