View Full Version : Clutch question

My clutch has a "rough" feeling movement, like moving steel over a machined surface. Only noticeable when the engine is off, if idleing it is smooth.
Since I recently lubed my clutch splines I may have bent the pushrod (I used cut off bolts as guides and took every precaution). While it was out I rolled it on a plate glass and it was not bent but that was before reassembly.
Can the pushrod be removed without removing the gear box? I'm wondering if the clutch actuating assembly can be removed.
Thanks for any advice :)

On my GS, the pushrod can be pulled out with a pair of needle nose pliers once the slave cylinder is pulled. Yours is likely the same.
I guess the question is one of whether or not you can get the slave cylinder out of the way without disassembling the swingarm. Pulling the gearbox with the rest of the drive intact might actually be easier.

If you are feeling that at the clutch lever, it's in the cable. My '96 feels like that, but only once in a while. I'm thinking the liner on the cable is starting to go. I'm still on the original cables at 40K miles.

Thanks for both answers.
I was very careful but never noticed the rough feel before.

Well, we're always just a wee bit on the hyper-sensitive side after buttoning that mess back together again - you should've seen me doing slow-speed turns for a while after a pivot bearing replacement/spline lube/clutch inspection!
Unless the feeling is really bad, I'd ride it a bit and let everything bed in. I'm thinking this is a hydro clutch, but Mick's saying cable... which one is yours?

It's a mechanical (cable) not hydraulic.
It works fine, guess I'm just over concerned.
