It is finished after 3 years. If I never polish aluminum again it will be to soon. Thanks to Europa Paint, Finish Line ceramic coatings,Color FX powder coating and Steve Prokop with out whom this would not have been possible

Epco sport mufflers w/ "titanium" ceramic coat were on the wrong sides in this shot. I switched them so that the bags would fit. The chrome on the original headers was worn off by the 117K miles of use so I used the ceramic coat.

Bob,
Very very very nice!
If you ever need to post some photos, lemme know. I've got the server space.
So when are you going to ride it over?
Or should we go explore the Oregon version of Lolo pass? You have to put a ding in the paint at some point. :evil

I would say you are all too kind, but I know better.
The words of encouragement, support and congratulations are appriciated :clap
Gorgeous. What did you use to polish the aluminum?
To polish aluminum (say the rear brake pedal) I started with files to remove the mold seams, then increasingly fine sand paper from 220 grit down to 600 grit. The alloy is pretty hard so it took a while to get the file scratches off the part. I lucked into a grinding wheel powered by an ancient 10 hp electric motor ($10) at a garage sale and turned it into a buffer. Eastwood company has every kind of buffing device and abrasive, but I got the liquid abrasives at an commercial auto finish supply house. They also come in different grades of abrasion. I would lean into the buffer until the parts were very hot to hold. I went through many boxes of the blue surgical gloves. The liquid abrasives would turn black with aluminum and spray all over the place. The surprising thing is that the German designs for the cast aluminum bits are very graceful. The lower triple clamp is a handsome piece as is the rear brake caliper mount.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Kinda reminds me of the time I got to see a B-17 that was nearing completion of a restoration so extensive that one would think they were making a new airplane. The sense of "oh, so THAT'S what they look like when they're new and unmolested by time!" I think I'd feel the same way if I saw your bike in person. Great job!

A guy showed up at the YB meeting last weekend on an absolutely pristine gold R90S (just like the one in the Lima rally logo). It was the same experience. "Oh, so that's what they looked like on the showroom floor."
