Ztechnik exhaust?

Any oilhead owner have experience with Ztechnik products? I think they are the only exhaust manufacture that does not void your BMW warranty.. and offer significant weight reduction from stock exhaust system.

I rode with a guy two weekends ago running their exauhst and cat eliminator. The sound was nice. He said there was a noticeable increase in power but I didn't have a chance to see for myself. He did seem quite pleased with it though.

I can't see going to an exhaust system that needs to be repacked every 6K (even if it doesn't void the warranty).

The Ztechnik exhaust system for the R1150RS does not need repacking.
Even if an exhaust system needs repacking like my KTM, it only take 15 minutes or less to repack them, I just do the repack while waiting for the oil to drain.. There is "adjustability" in the performance of an exhaust when you are repack it yourself and use different amount of packing material. You'd be surprised how much of a difference a few packing disks can make in the performance of your machine until you get a chance to try it.

Do you have a SuperTrapp on your KTM? I ask that because they use those discs that stack on the end. In essence, mechanical baffling that doesn't wear out.

Most mufflers use a type of wadding that helps absorb the noise, which eventually disintegrates and needs to be replaced.

My impression of the ZTeknik stuff, especially after seeing the repacking material, was that you need to disassemble the canister, take out all the burned/destroyed material and then refill it with fresh stuff.

I'm not sure I could do that in 15 minutes.

could be mistaken but i thought it had to be done by a dealer to not void warranty.

I got mine added to my R1200c while in Daytona. I got both the pipes with the slash cuts tips and then added the tapered tips later.
1, Great sounds from either. Nice roar to start and then smooth outs as you accell. Got compliments from many riders about sound.
2. Slash cut yields lots of backfiring when backing off throttle. Annoyingly so. Yes all pipes have the backfire to some degree (even the stock BMW - just suppressed by pipe). The slash were way too much. I have the r259 fuel mod. on my bike and adjusting this slightly did improve but not enough.
3. Got the tapered tips and they make ALL the difference. Sound is still great, but backfiring gone. Throatier sound than the slash.
4. Power feels like I picked up a couple of horse more with the tapered Vs. the slash - more back pressure.

Love em and will not be going back.

How did the rider measure this noticeable increase in power? On a dyno?

I brought this up because of all the exhaust system comparisons that I have seen for motorcycles in the magazines that I have, few if any provide an increase by themselves. And those companies that do make that claim, don't give you the whole picture which can be found on a horsepower and torque curve.

All systems that produced a 1 or 2 hp (if you were that lucky) increase within a very narrow rpm range, had reduced power and torque just about everywhere else.

Some increases were at higher rpms.

Just something to think about.

I still have the muffler but I had to take it off.
I could NOT stand the pitch at high RPM.

Somehow the sound irritated me. Was the exhaust not installed right ?

I ride a 2002 GS Adventure and I put the stock back on.
I like a quiet bike, the Z Technic was too loud for my ears.


What did I do wrong ?
Want to buy the muffler at 70% cost ?


Pls advise !
