I bought a 2002 K1200RS last April, it's the 1st time I've ever ridden an ABS equipped bike. It seems to shudder an awful lot during braking, but even worse, at unpredictable intervals of braking, the brakes will outright release for a second or so, then re-apply. Is this standard for '02 K1200's? It's very annoying. Is it unheard of to disable the ABS if it can't be stopped. Also, I rode an '85 K100RS for 16 years, the motor on the '02 sounds almost the same, is it okay to gently roll on the throttle as low as 2000-2500 rpm? Or is the newer model limited to 3000 rpm as the lower limit of available power?

The ABS release seems to be a standard feature. All of my ABS2 bikes have done it.

Regarding the other question, I don't recall there being a low-rpm limit to the powerband on a 1200. You might get some pinging out of the engine if its hot out and you aren't using premium fuel, but it should be fine otherwise.

I just got my first abs equipped bike (K12GT) and mine does the same thing. I think what it is its that when you pump the brakes like you do with a non abs you confuse the abs. What I've learned is if you keep constant pressure on the brake lever it doesn't happen.

The best way to use any abs system is to apply steady pressure. It gives a steady reading to the computer, and allows for proper application of the system. You are correct in that the abs computer is trying to allow for differences in application of the brakes, as well as the control of the abs itself.
