Hey Gang - I'm toying with trying out a sidecar outfit as a second bike. My kids love to ride, but sometimes I have to transport more than one at once. I have a 77 R100S that could be a donor bike...but I'm not sure the setup is the best for a hack (sport bars, gearing...I guess these could be changed, eh?). Any words of wisdom out there?

Thanks much.

Steve

I'd look for a /2 conversion with a 900 or 1000 cc motor. In fact, I have enough parts to build one. What color do you want it to be? :D

Sounds like a winner to me as.....
black
or
White
or
red
or
blue
or maybe
green

The airheads make good hack pullers if you do a bit of reinforcing here and there. I've got a 1980 R100t with a Ural sidecar that makes a great dual sport rig. The "slash 2" frames aren't much better than the slash 7, and the Earles leading link has the right geometry but isn't all that strong, needs disc brakes, etc.

If you'll send a measly $3 you can get a CD with several files on assembling a sidecar outfit.

I also highly recommend you take the Sidecar/Trike course if you've never driven a 3 wheeler before. Hacks are a lot of fun, but your 2-wheeler habits aren't applicable. Different dynamics, different skills, eh? 800 521-0778 or www.esc.org

There is also a book available, "Driving A Sidecar Outfit" 800 736-1117.

...for the responses. I will send for the CD. I had the S out on some back roads yesterday and decided it would be a sin to hook a rig up to it, so I will have to think about a whole unit.

If I do some creative rearranging, I think I can get another bike and hack into the garage without displacing the wife's car. :D
