Anyone know what year it was that BMW offered some of their models with the graphic "Boxer" painted on the gas tank, and if so, where online I might could possibly see an example of this paint job? I'd appreciate any help! ;)

Thanks!

I'm almost sure that only BMW offered with that paint graphic was the 1993 R100R (the R100GS might have also had it) . Here's a link to a website that has a photo of the R100R http://www.rymc.dk/bmw-r100r.html

If you're thinking of buying one, I recommend a later year. I've got a '95/'96 and it has dual discs up front instead of the single disc of the early years, and a black frame instead of the cheezy silver. Also '94 was when they started putting the bearing-endplay circlip back in the transmission, making it more durable.
You may have to do some shopping though. When I was looking for mine, I found 6 R100R's (none with the Boxer graphic- not sure if it was available in USA) for sale across the continent. Luckily the nicest one was also the best value as well as the closest to me, 1200 miles away.

Thanks for the info, Veg. So far, it's been more "curiosity" than anything else. I remember looking at a brochure at my local dealer back in '93-'94 and seeing the R100R with the "Boxer" graphic across the tank and thinking it was pretty radical for what many said was a "conservative" company, graphic design-wise. I've never asked if they were ever actually sold here in the US, just assumed they were, since they were pictured in their US sales brochure. If they were sold here in the states, I would think owning one would make a good investment, since they must be quite rare, having never seen one on the road before! (And not to mention they look so "different"!) :brow

Hey! What's wrong with a silver frame? :stick

Hmmmm.... I did not know that! I wonder if the decal would fit my gas tank on my '84 R65? I'll have to check it out! Danke Sehr!
