View Full Version : Dead 93 K1100RS
My K1100RS died on me when I stopped for the mail. It started fine for going to work and coming home, half an hour drive. But I turned it off to check my mail at the mail boxes it would not restart. I towed it home and after working on it, I suspect the fuel pump is not running, no pressure, no pump noise and no voltage to the pump. It looks like the fuel injector relay was replaced previously, that would have had to be at least three years ago. I am considering replacing the relay since everything else that I can check seems fine.
Any ideas or similar experiences?

I had a similar experience on the road once with my 93 K11LT. I stopped on the highway to adjust my gear, and the bike would not restart. I recalled reading about a problem where the bike does not recognize that the sidestand is really up (sorry I don't know the technical term). Of course if the sidestand is down, it kills the fuel pump. So I put the kickstand up and down a few times and thankfully it worked. :dunno
I found one article that may be related: http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech/k11-sidestand-switch.shtml
Gail
It was the sidestand interlock switch. :clap
Thank you Gail for suggesting the fix.

if you zip-tie the switch you will have eliminated the likelihood of this malfunction in the future, and you can readily return to stock anytime you choose to do so. just remember to put the s-stand up before taking off!

Another option is to follow the wire from the sidestand switch to where they connect on the right side under the sidecover. Disconnect that plug, then on the mating part of the plug install a jumper made of a small piece of wire and two bullet connectors (female, I believe). It fools the machine into thinking the stand is always up. Just remember to put it up, otherwise left turns can be a real thrill.
