I'm looking real hard at the R1200ST. I'm thinking it will be a good sport tourer. Anyone out there got one yet? If so, what are the pluses and minuses?
Buy one, so I can ask you how you like it!
I think I'd rather have it, than an RT. :drink
The ST is at the top of my next bike list :wave

If you can find a new R1150RS somewhere for sale, I am betting you would like it well enough to be happy, and all the beta problems will be out of the 1200 bikes by the time you have the itch again
The R1150RS is an awesome sport touring bike. The design has been refined over 10 years. If the magazines had the balls to do two up tests with all the sport touring bikes, You would find it at the top of the list. BIKE magazine polls rate it number one as a sport touring motorcycle.
Get the 0.9% financing, and the 5 payments, and probably a good deal on the bike. pay back less than you borrow on a great machine.

If I could get over how ugly the ST was I might consider replacing my R1100RS but just couldn't have that Edsel-esque thing in my garage - the RT is much, much worse. The ST does ride and perform well, but I just can't get past the looks and durability is suspect at this time. Would never ever buy a first year model from any manufacturer ever again - much less a Japanese cloned desigh translated into AmeriDeutsch. BMW is noting a decrease in both motorcycle and car sales - could this be attributed to the designs of Mr.
Bangle?
Do yourself a huge favor, find a new 1150RS or even better a good used 1100RS - I know you would be more than happy and miles ahead. These bikes define sport touring and are the standard to which pretenders are compared - not to mention they are very sexy. Nobody will say "nice Honda" to you at a gas station!

The ST is new. There may be bugs. But it should be noted that the drivetrain has largely been tested in the form of the R1200GS. As for the looks, maybe I'm weird. I buy a motorcycle to ride it, not look at it. Looks are just icing on the cake. Besides, if you crunch the numbers, you'll notice that the new RT is barely heavier than the old RS. The ST is a good bit lighter than the old RS and makes significantly better power. Progress is a bitch. :evil
p.s. the real question: does the ST fit you?

Yes it does - like a glove. I want one soooooo bad! It's just a matter of priorities and it might take a year or two to justify.

It might be ugly to some, but remember most people will only see the back end... :wow
