The Clymer manual states it is necessary to power-bleed the ABS system (1999 R1100GS). Is this true? Where can I find a power-bleeder?(Pepboys and Sears did't have one). How much can I expect to pay for one? Would it be more cost effective to have the dealer do it? Can I ride the bike to the dealer on manually bleeded brakes? Thanks, Chris.

here's what i did:

removed the vacuum bleeder fitting on the right front caliper

replaced with a speed bleeder

replaced the left front and rear with speed bleeders

bled with the standard method, (pump 1/2 way, release, repeat)

this took me 30 minutes and the breaks work great, the system is a loop and the abs only stores a minimal ammount of fluid, all the advice and tech articles i reviewed stated it was not necessary to bleed the abs units (although it can be done)

(it may seem like your stripping the vaccum fitting, but it just has some loctite on it, a little attention from a heat gun may be necessary, i didn't have to use one)
