I ordered an AUTCOM Active 7 to install on my 96 1100RT. Can anyone give me some suggestions re: placement and where to wire in?
I have seen the recommendations about placing it near the taillight. Does that give you enough lead to plug in an MP3 or Sat Radio from the tank bag?
How did you wire it in to power? The website said not to use the plug adapter for taillights with ABS brakes. Where did you hook the power and ground and how can I ID the right wires.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Jeff, Check this and the negative ground package for a relayed easy install without all the rings ending up on the battery.http://www.electricalconnection.com/power-distribution/pplate.htm
Or just put it in your tank bag and plug it direct with a Powerlet outlet, but don,t leave it plugged when stopped.

I put my AUtoComm by my tail light, I has having warranty work done on the windshield button so the dealer was nice enough to wire in my AutoCom power to the same source at the time. If not I was going to go with a tail light, the idea being that it turns off when the bike is off.
In terms of wire lengths, most of the jumpers you purchase will be long enough to reach the appropriatte locations. I have my Cell adapter coming up from the nose of the seat, the audio lines going up at the headstock, and I have not had any problems.
It really isn't too bad, the one thing I can not recommend highly enough, label your wiring.

On my 1996 R1100RT, my autocom is located in against the brake light in the compartment where you store the tool kit. The power lead is connected to the element of the brake light that is alway on and the ground is connected to the negative of the battery. Mounting the Autocom here keep the box away from any of the electronics that may cause noise through the systems and the place to store the auto connections when not in use. The leads are all long enough for your use.
