have any of you ridden US 69 from sherman to big cabin? i'm curious about the speed limit and that sort of thing. can i make good time on this road, or should i stick to the slab and take I-35 up to I-44 in OKC and then zip east on it?

thanks.

What's a speed limit? Beyond that, you know that US 69 is going to be more interesting than 'the slab'! :D Enjoy!

I rode 69 on a trip to Tulsa last spring and you can move plenty fast. I'm pretty sure the speed limit is 70 all the way and I want to say I got from Dallas to Tulsa in around 4.5 hours. I stopped for a bite though I can't remember if that is included in the time. North of Durant the traffic thins out and the traffic will generally do 80. Be careful for cops from Plano to Sherman on 75. It's a guarantee you'll see cops with radar.

Depending on the time you have, if you head east from Springtown on 43 to Sardis Lake, the roads are really great in that area towards Talihina. You could head north through Poteau (pronounced PODO) and Salisaw. It's all good on the eastern side of Oklahoma.

The population for the entire state of Oklahoma is equal to the population of DFW so forget rush hour. Bring change with you. There's tolls all over the place in that state.

Randy is right - it's 70 mph and traffic isn't very dense.

He is right again - all the decent roads, and some marginal ones, have those blasted toll boths on them. here is a link to the map of toll roads & fees -- Okla Toll Roads (http://www.pikepass.com/Maps%20And%20Rates.htm)

Good luck and enjoy the ride

I am a truck driver and go from St.Louis to Houston or Dallas quite often. When you get off 44 @ Big Cabin and head south there is a big trailer with a sign painted on it that says "SPEED TRAP" and usually a state trooper near by. Also OK. posts signs on the turnpike that say "NO TOLERANCE" so I rarely go over the speed limit (in my truck). Also, on US 69 are alot of small towns with traffic lights. so when you are coming to a town it drops from 65 to 55 to 45 to 35 to ? I do not like the slab on the bike (K12RS) but I wouldn`t use US 69. Good Luck, beemer-red.

I quickly learned that you can make LOTS better time on the two-lane roads in Oklahoma than you can on the interstate. Plus, it is LOTS more interesting.
