Riding the GS to the River Run next week. Am I crazy or what? Can I expect all kinds of cycles or all kinds of hassles? Any BMW hangouts or groups gonna be there? Got any recommendations of events to see (races, risque, music)?
Your thoughts, ideas, warnings will be given due consideration.
Until then, ride safe.

Ratiron - I don't know where you are coming from, but I would give Laughlin a big PASS. It's the same bunch of idiots who have just packed up here at Arizona Bike Week and are moving West for this event. (One of the nurses who works with me reports 8 fatalities in his ER associated with Arizona bike week riders - over 45, H-D, no helmets) There has been a lot of violence and gang activity at the past couple of Laughlin runs and I understand there will be road blocks at all approaches set up by law enforcement and they will not be letting through "motorcycle enthusiasts" wearing their colors because they are afraid they will cause mayhem (at best). I even know a guy here in the Phoenix area who runs a Harley rental place and has a certificate of appreciation from a notorious international motorcycle gang on the wall of his office - even HE told me not to go to this event.
So many nice places to go in the general area - check out the North Rim of the Grand Canyon or something but I would recommend staying away from Laughlin.

Yikes, that sounds like a place that would be less than fun to go to.

Yes, crazy. Actually, if you've never been to one, it's kind of interesting. When I went two years ago, the BMW trailer was actually there and they were giving demo rides.

That was the scene two years (or was it three?). There was an altercation between two clubs in a hotel resulting in several fatalities. (old west re-visited!) The last couple of years have been tame by comparison, due in no small part to the Bagdad-like security presence.
