There they were making a bunch of noise in the cherry tree in front of the house! A few even perched on the power line and squawked as though they owned the place. And you know that they know there's a poor little cat on the wrong side of the glass. They're evil!

yes, the window is filthy, but I'm going to be replacing the glass in the next few weeks.

At least your cat can climb up to a window. Mine's just too lazy. He likes to pretend he's dead and wait for the bird to come up close. :p

here's my cat homey, below. clearly, when the birds come around, i let him out, and he goes to work..

of course, that was when he was younger and a little more spry. now he relies on them flying right into his mouth...

Thanks for the Cat thread guys. My day consisted of being continually rammed by the beverage cart everytime I was ALMOST fell asleep on my 4 hour flight home after two 3 hours-of-sleep nights bookending and 18 hour day.
Between this and Lorzepams fishing thread, I think I can make it through work tonight! :clap

My dogs do the same thing, and it is really amazing to watch a 120 pound dog leap to get a bird off the fence. It is even more amazing to see the look on the birds face when it realizes what is happening.

I just think the whole thread was started by a knary! :stick :brad

I just had the pleasure the other night of cleaning up a wascally wabbit that a friend's cat deposited in her living room. Sans head. We couldn't figure out where the cat had put it.

Yeah, it was pretty gross. I wish I'd had my digital cam with me to catch the moment for posterity.

I just tell my cat it's "Duck" season so he'll leave the wabbets alone.

If your cat is an indoor critter , as mine are . perhaps a trip to the local pet shop to get him/her its very own "freind" is in order . Just don't ask sales person , which ones are the feeders??? seems to get them all rattled n bitter!!! :jester

My collie does that too. He even picked a squirrel off the low branch of our magnolia tree. That was one surprised squirrel.

i don't believe otter (a sort of beagle kinda dog) could pluck a bird off a fence, however she did kill a chicken in less time that i could say "put that down!". now that she has the blood lust we is all afeard.
we live in the country - if our cat Bill Wonderful Bill (son of shemp, out of cutlery) didn't kill them little mices, then he would be sent packing. he is of little use otherwise (we think he is a bit dain bramaged), but he can mouse pretty well.

Is it Michigan's citizen that just voted to declare cats an unprotected species with the idea that if the referendum is passed it will pave the way for open hunting season on cats. They in Michigan contend that cats kill x number of millions of songbirds per year.

jeez, "hunting cats" would be easy. you just walk down the street operating a can opener, and they would flock to you!

Set up a blind and play a recording of the can opener, or shaking the food bag. Use a little scent blocking tuna and you are set.

My cats would come running at the sound of a food bag being shaken. They have no idea what comes out of cans, since dry food is all they have ever eaten.

Wisconsin, where they say they have 2+million feral and stray cats.

Michigan has a ton of feral cats too, but I hadn't heard they were working on legislature for it.

it must be nice that all the hard problems are fixed, and government can turn its eye toward the issue of feral cats.

We are still thinking of getting Mark11LT fixed (but he keeps crossing his legs)

I keep hearing the whine about cats killing songbirds, Isn't this the nature of things? is there an extinction factor to be considered? I don't think so. We seem to have just as many birds as ever, song and non song types included. Just another sympathy tug to make the issue seem more important

The problem is that the number of predators, the cat, has nothing to do with the prey count. As that prey count drops, at such a pace as you might notice, the number of cats doesn't drop. So the same number of cats, kept fat and happy by us, direct their need for sport on fewer and fewer birds. It should be noted that the problem does not exist everywhere.
